Detroit style pizza is the best in the world, yes I said it. Yes I am biased, but that doesnāt mean i am wrong. I am over exaggerating a bit, italian style thin crust, especially in Italy is probably my most favorite style, but in the states, Detroit style reigns āsupremeā. ( See what i did there?) The two incredible sheets of pizza you see above are a Hawaiian style pizza and a meat lovers pizza. Just as i described above, crunchy crisp texture on the outside and a warm soft interior, and the sauce on top not unlike a Chicago style pizza. The meat was also cooked perfectly with little bits of crunchy beef crumbs, bacon slices , cooked pineapple, and seasoned ham. If you donāt think pineapple goes on pizza, your wrong once again. Was there something to complain about? Not really, i liked everything that was put in front of me here, and Grandma Bobs will be where I go at least once every time I go back to Detroit.
I have never had a boozy milkshake before, and I was so intrigued by this that I had to try one. I tried to give everything the benefit of the doubt, but I just new this was going to be disgusting in some way. Either the consistency would be to watery due to the alcohol, or the taste would be a mix between ice cream and a alcohol that just didnāt pair. To top it all off, they were marketed as a vegan milkshake. I was fully prepared to throw away eleven dollars just to say that I tried it. I was wrong, by the time I got halfway through the cup, I was ready to order another one. These drinks were also vegan, but I didnāt ask how because I wanted the mystery. If you visit, its a must have to try out one of these...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreChatting with Border guards would yield valuable and unexpected recommendations for dining. This time around, the agent recommended that we visit Grandma Bob's for Detroit style pizza, which is renowned for its crispy crust and thick topping layer.
I honestly like the ambiance of this restaurant. High ceiling with tasteful lighting scene, as well as a wall filled with antique tins and liquor bottles, kept my eyes wandering. We sat at the bar, curious with their unique beverage selections. I wanted to order the Fora soda (strawberry with hibiscus), but they ran out of stock, so our enterprising bartender Lexi graciously recreated the drink for me, which I enjoyed immensely. She was also quick with my drink refills and facilitating my unique order, which deserves credit.
We decided to order a medium Detroit style deep dish pizza with two types: cheese only and meatlover. I found the cheese pizza to be too subtle for my taste, as I found that the pizza sauce did not sufficiently elevate the flavour pallete of the pizza. On the other hand, the meatlover completely blew me away. The mortadello and pepperoni slices provided salty bits, while the generous sausage pieces gave the slight kick to every bite. I would order meatlover pizza at every future visit.
Keep in mind that the pizza is served precariously on a platform that is prone to tipping over, which happened plenty of time during our time there, so be careful when picking your pizza...

Food: š Pizza on the menu has medium & XL sizes. Got the āHawaiianā with club soda. ½ w/out š§ Hawaiianās Delicious!
The toppings of Pineapple, Jalapeno, work well. Esp. with the other stuff.Ā šŗ Pan pizza can be common, but that became a favorite unique Deep Dish. I craved it a few hours laterš
Their drink selectionās known for beer & providing a variety of alcohol options. Thereās a whole wall (bar). I chose a Casmara Club Soda (āIslaā Ginger Leisure Soda). Itās not⦠close to Vernors š
IDK Why I expected Vernors flavor, but that sweetness is what I think of when I picture Ginger Soda, and didnāt realize itās 0% sugar. While I missed trying their shake, I think they look really good + would get one!
Service & Interior: š§š¼āš³ I found that the service workers were friendly: definitely warm and attentive, especially among crowded guests. Theyāll check in enough. Plus, the speed of ordering for just a meal - no appetizer felt quick.
Inside: The space is quaint. Not quite quiet, just quite small. Dining in might get loud. As thereās only a couple of tables, it will get crowded fast on an optimal day. It canāt be helped.
Regardless, the place has solid decor. Itās well lit, with an loft - industrial look, and colorful painted walls around the place.
Grandma Bobās is a nice place. Iād re-visit, get another pizza. & Likely try a shake šØ
