So, yesterday was my second time here but it was my date’s first time. I can honestly say the first time was okay. Customer service was lacking but I wouldn’t call it “bad.” Yesterday, it was so bad I was embarrassed I’d suggested the place and will absolutely, unequivocally, never return. I moved downtown this year and totally love it. My condo neighbors and I are always sharing the latest places we’ve tried and suggesting places we can all go together. Today during the football game, I will ensure they know NONE of them should EVER darken your door under any circumstances. I’ve read other google reviews of this place and the common thread is how poorly people are treated, how rude the bartenders are, and how little the owner/manager cared when apprised of how the customer felt. I’m actually shocked. Surely you people know there are other options out there. Surely you know one doesn’t HAVE to spend money at a wine bar like we have to pay DTE. The money spent here is OPTIONAL and I for one will never spend my money and be mistreated at the same time. My fellow customers, if you are reading this review and considering somewhere to go to enjoy wine and music or a wine tasting, heed the warnings. Please, might I suggest Eddie V’s or Cooper’s Hawk for fabulous wine tastings, live jazz, and wonderful dinner on top of that. If you want to stay downtown, try the roof top bars at Book Cadillac, the Element, Cibo, or more. There are multiple options where your time and money spent will be appreciated and as you’ll see for yourself, the customer reviews are fantastic. None of their employees, absolutely none of them would remain employed if they treated customers as poorly as the staff (and apparently the owner/manager as well) do at MotorCity Wine. To this establishment I say, do better and shame on you. People have options folks. You may be doing “well enough” right now but take a look around you! Detroit is growing everyday so options are improving. NO ONE is going to tolerate your foolishness...
Read moreOn August 10th at approximately midnight, I was seated with a friend inside this wine bar. I sat down behind a male patron. This male expressed that I was too close to his space. I responded, “Just leave me alone.” And I went on my phone, this man wouldn’t leave me alone even tho I was not engaging with him. My friend stated, “There’s plenty of space for everyone can you leave it alone.”
The male then shoved my friend, causing him to fall to the floor. In response, I pushed the male back and told him to leave us alone AGAIN, it was my friends 23rd bday I was not trying to be kicked out for fighting so I was trying to be very respectful. The male made movements suggesting he was preparing to fight. I stepped over/around a table and told him to calm down, stating, “It’s not that serious.”
The male then struck me across the face with his hand. I saw him walking toward me again, so I walked toward the bar counter to request staff assistance.
At that point, bar staff told all involved parties — including me and my friend, who were the victims — to leave the premises. Staff did not make any effort to separate the aggressor from us, to prevent further contact, or to ensure our safety when exiting the building.
While in the parking lot, the male approached us again and initiated another physical confrontation. The second confrontation occurred outside after the bar had ejected both parties without providing any protection or safe exit for us. If you have a liqour license and there’s attacks on your property it’s actually illegal to handle it the way you did. And I will be seeking a lawyer. You allowed multiple attacks to happen, and when customers asked for help, you made the...
Read moreUnprofessional. My friend and I were told to pay a cover at one door but not the other. Confused, I simply asked what time that they stopped charging seeing as we arrived at an odd time and within 20 seconds suddenly there was no charge. On the way out, I asked the bartender what time free admission started (I was interested in holding an event there). As she answered, a man with a suitcase came up and asked if I wanted my 7 dollars back with an attitude. I responded that I hadn't paid but was just wondering. I ask if he's the owner and he responds no he just works there. Suddenly, another woman aggressively begins speaking at me, not knowing the situation. She tells me she's the owner to which I respond, "that's really professional." My friend and I had a good time and I actually enjoyed the bar before the manager and two employees began ganging up on me and threatening to call the police for asking a simple question. Even if I was drunk and belligerent (which I was not) the lack of professionalism was insane. They ended the exchange by threatening to call the police. My friend and I immediately left, not intending to start issues but as soon as we got outside she commented how shocked she was with the entire situation and how my demeanor and question in no way warranted the response I received. I have since contacted the police because no establishment in this city should have such a lack of professionalism towards costumers who don't fit the criteria of the "new" Detroit, despite paying and tipping like...
