We showed up to a Saturday party at SpotLite around 11pm and parked a few hundred feet from the building. I was driving with 3 others in the car. It was 30 dollars each to get in so 120 total at the door. There were a lot of people there and the music was good. We were having fun. Between us four, we had 2 drinks each, the girls drinking Paloma’s, which they said were good, and my friend and I drinking 2 beers. We couldn’t check our coats because the cost check was taking so long and every trip to the bathroom was a really long wait. The bar tender seemed like he was having a terrible night and had a mean-mug pouty face on and seemed upset we were ordering drinks from him. We were ready for our third and last drink at 1:45 am but the pouty bartender told me the bar was closed and wouldn’t serve anymore with no last call, even though someone 10 feet from me just got served and he served the guy right ahead of me. The girls were disappointed but we stayed for a bit longer and left. When we got to the car I discovered my passenger front window was smashed and glass was everywhere. It was about 9 degrees outside and it took awhile to get all of the glass off the seat…it was all over the car. The would-be thief opened the glove box and searched through it. I walked back to the club while my friend got the rest of the glass off of his seat and walked up to the security vehicle parked in front of the club. She was clam baking out the security car with weed and when she rolled down the window she seemed upset I would bother her about trying to get back into the building to talk with someone. After being as nice as I possibly could despite the callous attitude, she pointed me to a door I could try. I got back into the club and looked for the owner or someone in charge. Someone at the DJ booth told me they already left and said all I could do was talk to the people at the bar. I told them what happened and the guy was visibly annoyed and upset I would bring that up to him. I suggested I wanted to try to recoup a few bucks since we spent about 200 and that made him even more annoyed while he said in a sharp pissed off way, “we’re not paying for that!” Very bad attitudes of everyone I came into contact with. No caring whatsoever by anybody or even someone saying sorry. They just said “that sucks” in a pissy way, while the high security officer wasn't doing her job. It will be 250 to fix the window with my deductible and I have to miss work tomorrow to have it fixed before Christmas, not to mention driving home freezing. Terrible experience and strange aggravated people at the club. Open drug use by the security officer Lolo and the people in the club…and not in a fun way, in a, these people have issues way. Very bad vibes and a dangerous area with no concern for people’s safety, but expensive. We won’t be...
Read moreI was at Spotlite Friday March 1st. At the door I used my credit card and was charged $20 (the original price was $15, so I was aware it would be $20 at the door) I made sure not to include a tip on this transaction. I thought this was a strange option at the time because usually venues pay their door to cover the job of collecting money at the door. I also thought this is a ripe system for abuse because people could easily be charged money without their knowledge. My suspicion was confirmed as my card was charged $24.40, not the $20 that I authorized. This is the equivalent of a 20% tip. Please do away with this cash grab at the door and pay your workers more. It’s really tacky that the door has a tip option and is something that can easily be abused. In addition, all the cars got their windows smashed that night directly outside of the building. Looking at your google reviews and talking with other members of the community all confirmed this has been an issue going on for years now and although claims are being made that this issue is being worked on, obviously that is far from the truth as it continues relentlessly to this day.
EDIT: The owner's response shows a lack of accountability. This is not the story that was told to me when I e-mailed them privately to discuss the issue. There was no signage at the door. There was no discussion of "credit card fees" which typically cost around 60 cents on a transaction of $20, not 20% of...

Since my last review, where I expressed my dissatisfaction due to a break-in and larceny of my vehicle at Spotlight Detroit, I've observed significant changes that compel me to update my perspective.
Initially, my experience was overshadowed by the unfortunate incident. However, it's important to recognize how Spotlight Detroit, a cultural institution in Detroit, has sincerely addressed these concerns.
