Sweet Soul Bistro — Restaurant in Detroit

Save yourself the aggravation! We stopped in for a late lunch on a Friday. From the look of tbe dining room, the cleaning crew had not yet arrived to clean up from the apparent party the night before. While 3 people stood casually behind the bar, we sat in the dining room by ourselves without any service. Finally, I waived over a waitress who judging by her attire doubles as a delivery runner. Even after acknowledging my presence, she walked to the kitchen twice before arriving at our table. She greeted us warmly and took our order. I proceeded to the men's room(cleaning crew skipped that area too) to wash my hands. I opened the door and gagged on fresh cigarette smoke. I should mention that the only other males in the establishment were employees. Anyway, I wash my hands and reach for a towel... empty!!! I manage to open the door with dripping wet hands and immediately encounter one of the casual workers who's response was " Oh, oh!" And then runs off only to return after 4 minutes with a puzzled look and empty hands to say "I'm Still lookin"

Fortunately, there is science and my hands air dried. I returned to my table and patted away the dampness with the napkins on the table. 10 minutes later, the joker came by the table and only said "I took care of it." GTFOH!! First impressions are lasting. 25 minutes after ordering, still nothing from the kitchen. Maybe the cook is on another...

I went in I was going down the street first to get soul food tonight I really wanted some black eyed peas and a home cooked meal that I didn't cook...so, I ended up stopping in Sweet Soul Bistro and getting Lamb chopss which I have no problem with Detroit slicing their lamb chops down to slices but please don't overcook them. I mean leather, not good.

I went into the restroom to wash my hands for it is covid and I guess when I came out the bartender maybe she was the owner was a bit perturbed because I asked for some paper towel/napkins... she told me the dryers were working I did Wave My hands across the dispenser twice the one with the wire and I wanted paper towel and if it there was a air dryer in there I do apologize for me not noticing I don't even see those because I don't like them but I wanted paper towel and she did go in and check so hopefully there okay with the paper towel dispenser now..

As I said the lamb chops were a bit overcooked and the spinach and garlic was straight out of the freezer bag it tasted terrible like water no flavor, seasoning at all whatsoever and the macaroni and cheese was Stouffer's for I am a single person I eat old faithfulness...enough just wasn't happy with it tonight in the $35 meal that I wasn't happy for at all from Sweet Soul bistro ...said next time I'll stick to my guns, go where I was going first...

They need something in place for people picking up their orders. I got there and the doorman tried to charge me $5 to enter. I told him I was picking up my food order, that seemed to register slowly. Once past him I walk in and I'm lost. There's no sign for picking up orders, No help, nothing for a first timer to go off of. Next I walk to the end of the bar no one even acknowledges that I'm there, trust me I stand out from the crowd. At least 3 of their waitresses walked by me. 2 of them looked dead at me when I came in mind you. I was there like 15mins trying to pick up an order I called in! The waitresses may be better alert if they're not drinking! Too many people standing around just talking on the job.

Now the food! I got there honey glazed salmon with loaded potatoes (no bacon), grilled asparagus, lobster mac and cheese sticks. This came to $38, mind you I've paid $38 and got enough food to feed my husband and I for 2 days. The Honey glazed Salmon had no glaze, not even a hint of honey! My loaded potatoes were just cheese potatoes. The asparagus was bland. This so called lobster mac was salty and gross, it barely had lobster in it! The cheese combination was terrible and tasted cheap! I didnt even finish it! I was sooo disappointed! Will not be returning to this...
