Ill start off by saying that I have been wanting to visit Trap Vegan for sometime. I finally made it. I won't do a bashing session about the wait time... There is literally a wait for dine in and carry out service everywhere you go. If you don't want to wait, I'd recommend call in your order, then do your guesstimated time of arrival from there. The staff was extremely nice. I gave a 4 star due to the lack of knowledge when it comes to ingredients/allergens being used. Some individuals like myself have severe allergies. I have a nut allergy (which sends me to anaphylaxis shock) and gluten allergy (I can maintain that better). I intially called in to inquire about specific dishes that I was interested in. I asked about gluten... It was extremely hard for the representative to hear me, so I told her that I was almost there... When I came inside I clarified my question. I was told that "I am pretty sure" that "all of the dishes" are gluten free... I asked about the ingredients in one of the burgers, I was told that there was soy, and the cashier named one or two more ingredients (I dont remember). I ordered that burger, and requested a gluten free bun. After looking at the ticket I noticed that there was no indication that I had requested a gluten free bun. The response was "it's not on the receipt because all of our buns are gluten free." So... Later on, my body did its normal thing when I have been exposed to gluten. I jumped on social media to try to find info on nutritional facts (for future purposes). The only thing I could find was an article that mentioned (amongst other news) that either all or most of the cheese is made with cashew nuts, and they use avocado and another oil (dont remember) to fry with. Well, with the amount of nut allergies, this info should definitely be posted somewhere inside the restaurant. People have severe allergies to pea protien... Not sure what the burgers are made of, but people have severe allergies.... For me, my gluten allergy has never sent me to the ER before, however, some people have celiac disease and extremely severe allergies to gluten. Their response will look very different from mine. People who suffer from celiac body will literally wreack havoc after being exposed to gluten. After searching high and low... I reached someone affiliated with Trap Vegan via social media. I was advised that there are three dishes that are gluten free, and there are gluten free buns upon request, but there is an upcharge. So... The meal that I ordered was not gluten free, nor the bun. I also asked about the fries because 90% or more of fries at restaurant chains contain gluten. They said they were gluten free, but I was not totally sold on anything else being gluten free so figured I will just pass on those. I would suggest a couple of things. Either post the nutritional/allergen facts inside the restaurant for customers to see, or at least have it available for the staff to have access to when asked. The cooks should definitely have knowledge on the ingredients that they are preparing daily. They all should be familiar with the allergens in the dishes. For customers who are coming in with allergies, especially severe allergies... Just know for sure!!! If you don't know for sure, don't order. The staff should never guess on things like allergens because that guess being wrong could mean the matter of life and death for someone who...
Read moreLet me begin by saying that the name is very befitting, considering how I was disrespected and treated by the person taking orders on 08/31/2023.
On 08/30/2023, I was visiting the area and I came across this restaurant. I walked in and took a quick browse at the menu. Impressed with what I had seen, I made a commitment to return the following day, because, I, myself, am African American, and I enjoy patronizing Black businesses; however, I will not be disrespected nor engage in any form of debauchery with your unprofessional staff.
What I ordered wasn’t available. I said “sometimes it can be difficult to support Black-owned businesses due to limited product and/or inventory. The cashier proceeds to tell me that “you don’t have to support us or come back.” I told her, “I have no issue coming back.” She said three or four times I don’t have to come back and my support isn’t needed. So, I requested to speak to a manager. She tells me that they weren’t available. I think she was being dishonest. I am confident that someone on a supervisory level was present, but they had no desire to engage in social intercourse with any of the patrons.
Then, after she handed me my drink, I informed her that “she shouldn’t take it personal.” She tells me “please, stop talking to me.” I was completely bewildered. Afterwards, she goes in the back and loudly explains what transpired. Sadly, the tall, dark-skinned gentleman, working alongside, in the kitchen, agreed.
Their wish is my command. I will not spend my money and be disrespected simultaneously. I’m asking that she is reprimanded for her lack of professionalism. If I ever decide to step foot back in Trap Vegan, I will be expecting a verbal apology. If not, I will make my experience...
Read moreFirst off let me start by saying listen to your first mind. I told myself I was never spending money with this establishment a month ago due to the fact that I drive all the way from Sterling heights to support this black establishment only to be met with weird energy every time I step in there. I don't even know these people I was just trying to support. I back slid yesterday because I was desperately hungry. When I arrived I waited at the register for about 4-5 mins before being acknowledged. I'm not sure what time the cut off is for orders but it was 7:56 pm when order was placed I told the cashier can she make sure she tells the cook no mushrooms. Cashier yells out to the cook no mushrooms. The cook makes my order with mushrooms and told me I had to accept it because she was f-ing tired and she didn't have time for this ish. The manager walked up and ask me would like a refund because the cook was tired and she couldn't make her prepare the burger. I stated I want the food ordered paid for stood and waited patiently on. The manager was very nasty in her response towards me and how she handled the situation. She went on to give me the excuse that her cook would walk out. Well as a manager would that mean you step up and get the job done and not give customers excuses for poor customer service. When I stated I was leaving a review across all platforms then her attitude immediately changed and she begged me not too and gave me a sweet potato cheese cake as if it would make right their wrong doings. The name says it all I definitely was treated like I was in a trap house ran...
