Went in on a Monday at lunchtime and there wasn’t much of a crowd. The ambience was very nice. Decor and cleanliness were good. Seems very upscale although the people sitting in the seats did not so that should have been my first red flag. I almost turned around once we met the host at the front but decided to stay and give it a chance.
It was just me and my husband. So we ordered the lunch specials. There was a bit of confusion when explaining what the specials were with the bento box options. There was so much description to it that we couldn’t catch what she was trying to tell us and had to have her keep repeating it. When I asked her if she had a menu version, she said no because they just put out the menu today. Very odd that they didn’t have it written anywhere when their rest of the menu was so detailed with pictures and all. He ordered a sushi roll and Poké bowl and I ordered the pad Thai.
The plates they were served in were beautiful. The waitress always appeared to be so busy that she never checked up on us. Once we received our actual food. I had to call her over every time I wanted her attention. The Poké bowl quality and amount was OK but the main complaint from that dish was the seaweed salad. My husband said it smelt kind of funny and took it off his plate and asked me to check it out. He wondered if there was alcohol in it and asked if that was something I had ever seen before. It smelled very strong and off and when I tasted it, it was disgusting probably gone sour or rotten. Because I couldn’t get the waitresses attention another waiter came and helped us. I told him that the smell and taste was horrible and he looked at me confused. I told him he needs to take it back to the kitchen and make sure that their whole stock of seaweed is rotten. He quickly and quietly went to the manager and the chef and explained what was going on. They went to the back kitchen and brought out a new bowl of seaweed salad. He apologized nicely. But I was already grossed out because that seaweed had already been mixed in with most of the Poké bowl and instead of asking us to replace the Poké bowl they just replaced the seaweed salad portion.
The Pad Thai was salty and soupy. It didn’t taste bad it just didn’t taste like Pad Thai at all like the plate it should be. I reported this to the waitress and suggested she tell the chef it’s over salty and too soupy.
Then the sushi roll had a really cheaply quality raw salmon fish that was chewy. My husband was very disappointed as he’s the one that wanted sushi. We sent it back.
The entire time we ate and had three separate complaints the manager observed us from afar but never came to our table to apologize and try to make things right.
At the end of the meal I was very disappointed and sad we had to pay for this entire meal.
The only thing we like was the miso soup.
They did remove the cost of the sushi roll from our roll.
Still came to $50 including tax and tip
I felt like we wasted our money.
I miss the old Japanese sushi buffet that was...

Read moreI recently visited Bonsai Sushi with my family, and while the food was absolutely excellent, the service left much to be desired. Everything we ordered was delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented—no complaints there.
However, the service was quite disappointing. Upon arriving with my service dog, I was asked for documentation at the front, which is not only unnecessary but also illegal under the ADA. This situation caused me a lot of anxiety, as I don't usually carry that documentation with me since it's not required. Even though I knew the law, I spent around 10 minutes looking for it just to avoid making a scene in front of my family.
Throughout the meal, the majority of the staff seemed to be in a bad mood—there were no smiles, and the overall atmosphere felt cold. The only exceptions were the person cleaning the tables, who was very friendly, and one of the servers (I wish I had gotten her name) who showed some kindness.
While the food was excellent, I sincerely hope management puts more focus on improving their customer service and ensuring all employees are trained appropriately, especially when it comes to ADA...
