Customer Service here is awful. Ever since they opened pizzeria it's like nobody there knows what to do. You can literally get the same meal and portion at pizzeria for a cheaper price. You lose the dim the lights and the ambience that's it. Same place same meal. But it causes confusion because then the Pizza place doesn't know what to charge you. They have a Sunday Pasta special. Never had it. Thought I'd give it a try. But because everyone is so lost there now, I go in to pizza place and ask can I get pasta special on this side or does it have to be on that side. I'm told "no problem." I eat pasta dish and it wasn't actually that good. The meal comes with pasta, soda and a salad. I never get the salad. When I ask for bill I'm charged for soda and said it comes with the meal. A deer in headlights moment, just stares at bill. Then says you didn't order the pasta special, I say what are you talking about. Literally starts walking around for the pasta special menu and only reason I know that's what he's looking for is cause he eventually comes back to table and says what did you do with pasta special menu, I laugh are you serious, you took it. So we are now waiting for him to find menu and he comes back and says you ordered this. I'm like yup, and see there it says salad and soda. I got no salad and you charged me the soda I said. He then goes I can't charge you that. What?!?! I asked you when I walked in if I needed to be on the other side. What's ridiculous is that they use the same conjoined kitchen. And you have all these problems. I then get a manager come to my table and pretty much talk down to me and make me seem like the idiot. Why would you come here on this side to eat pasta special. And I tell him, I asked if it was ok. To me I should have received an apology right there, oh you asked and were told it was ok. But no he continued giving me an explanation and telling me he was letting me know for next time. And I said are you serious? After I told you I asked if it was ok, your still going to tell me that I'm in the wrong and that I'm the one that needs to learn. It is absurd. It was like talking to wall. They make the mistake and try to guilt trip me into saying it was my fault. I've been here before and ever since they opened the other place the issues have been outrageous. I ordered a meal once and waited almost an hour at the pizza place and I was the only person there. I mean no one even entered the place. I got no apologies, no nothing. I said nothing and hadn't returned in awhile. But this place can't function as two places in one and achieve proper customer service. You can order the same pasta cheaper on one side at the exact same time doesn't actually make sense. But someone thought it did. But the problems all started when they opened the place on the side. Won't be going back there ever again. Not worth...
Read moreMet friends halfway between our homes and they recommended Table 42. Table 42 had a band and I usually avoid places with bands but this was a few guys with bongo drums, percussion and singing. I didn't recognize any of the songs but the music they played was very, very nice.
Seating outside. A very long wide bar as you walk in which was bustling with people, food and laughter. It felt like a local place and I'm certain this is on many people's list of 'our Italian restaurant'.
My guests, who know the place told me a brief story of the owner, I did not pick up all the details but something about hating his job so he opened a restaurant. A great story we all aspire to.
Next door they seem to have an adjoining establishment that is a pizzeria and I could see you can walk through the restaurant to the pizzeria but maybe they are set up a bit differently.
Checking the 'one bite's app (everyone knows the rules) Table 42 gets a 7.8 for their cheese pie from the community - this is a good score people and is consistent with my dining experience at the restaurant.
I won't call Table 42 a fancy place, walking in I had a similar experience to walking into Arturo's on Hudson Street NYC or one of the many restaurants in the iron bound section of Newark. Not a lot of time to impress, all time spent on service and food.
Table 42 two is located in an area that has a touch of urban to it with multicultural residents, visitors and your typical garden State variety of patrons.
Food was very good, I had chicken piccata and it was very nice, I really enjoyed it. They also served a small plate of picked veggies in oil which were also very nice. In addition to the veggie plate they served this small longish rolls, I didn't try but everyone seemed to enjoy them. My guests dishes looked good also and I almost wanted to reach over and taste a bit but you know, meeting new people that can be uncool.
I would enjoy going back to table two for my two drinks per week or when I am seeking a solid Italian meal with a lively neighborhood vibe that can lift you up along with the food.
All in all a nice spot and they seem to try hard to 'make a nice'!
Sorry no pictures on this one,...
Read moreSo, I have mixed reviews on this spot. Firecracker calamari was very bizarre. Fresh calamari, almost perfectly cooked. Thank goodness we got the "firecracker" sauce on the side. It was balsamic glazed with what appeared to be small pieces of mushrooms. No cherry peppers in site :( The country style chicken had the physical appearance of boiled chicken as well as boiled sausage. Not aesteticly pleasing, at all. However, the chicken was tender and the sauce had a good flavor. The onions weren't cooked properly so they had a raw crunch to them. Womp, womp. Even the breadsticks that came to our table looked so amazing. The egg wash gave them a beautiful shine, however they were solid and cold. Seemed to have been brought out of a fridge and put in an oven for just a minute. Only the very outside were barely warm to the touch, but like I said, the inside was hard and cold. My grilled chicken, roasted red pepper fresh mozzarella sandwich had a miniscule amount of mozzarella, and for some reason had very large pieces of mushroom on them. Luckily, I don't have a problem with mushrooms so I did keep the sandwich as it was (once we figured out it wasn't eggplant as the server had guessed). The pasta came with fresh sauce it was a little on the sweet side, so much like all the dishes that came to the table I had to salt it. I won't ever complain about dishes have no salt, because it's always preferred rather than there being too much salt. Leslie, was our server. She was attentive, and friendly. Everything we asked was done quickly and with a smile. We would go back to give it another shot. Maybe it was an off day for the kitchen. P.s. there was older gentleman who was giving directives to the servers. I'm not sure if he is the owner or the manager. However, his tone was less than pleasant to his staff. It left a very bad taste in my mouth. It's not what someone wants to see or hear when they are dining in an...
