Thai First — Restaurant in Downers Grove

Saw the Google rating and decided to give this place a try. I love Thai food and have been searching for a new go to since moving Lisle. Called in an order at 5:00 on the dot, literally the minute they opened. I was quoted 35minutes which was surprising considering I had yo be the first order of the evening I arrive at 5:40 make my payment expe ting to grab my food and go, nope, waited another 20 minutes as I watched another take out order go out and every diner in the restaurant get fed. They did try and make it up to me with a free order of crab Rangoon? ordered Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, and Basil Dynamite. Pad thai was bad, very sweet, one note no depth of flavor. Pad Kee Mao, slightly better at first bite, but then the black pepper kicked in and that was all you could taste, pepper pepper pepper. Basil Dynamite was actually quite good and I would order it again if I ever ordered from here again, but that won't happen. Free Crab Rangoon was also bad, would have been upset if I paid for it....All skin almost no filling, cheap and greasy. I really wanted this to be my new spot, but cannot reccomend this to anyone. This place deserves to be among the best Thai Restaurants for the quality and tastiness of the food they serve. I've had Thai food at a lot of places, including some of the best in Chicago city and Thai First now ranks near the top of my list. The food was ready within 20 minutes of placing the order online and was piping hot even after I drove back home. Pick up was an absolute breeze. The quality of the food (the aroma of the green curry as soon as you open the lid) is shockingly good. Tofu in our green curry almost melted in my mouth. Spice levels were spot-on and the consistency of the curry was perfect. Chicken satay was another highlight of my order. The chicken was well cooked and the accompanying peanut sauce was probably the best I've ever had. I can't comment on the food as I didn't get to try it. I came here with my 8 month pregnant wife during the lunch hour. They were pretty full and after being seated the owner asked us if we were in a hurry because it would be a while. We said that was fine. However after 10 minutes no one had taken our food or drink order. I looked around and noticed that only the owner was taking orders, expediting, and ringing up customers. There was another woman who only cleared off tables. We decided to give it another 5 minutes and finally left after seeing the owner taking orders from people who had arrived after us.

I give them credit for warning us of the wait, but I have to take exception with the fact that they are understaffed and unorganized. If there is a long wait on food coming out of the kitchen you don't make your guests wait over 15 minutes before taking...
