3/20/22 a year later I decided to try them out again. The seating was all indoors. Thankfully waiters were all still wearing masks. We were served by a wonderful lady who brought our food in a timely manner. The food was delicious. It was a 180 turn around. I'm so glad I went back.
3/18/21 at around 3:30pm today, I had the WORST experience ever dining here. My daughter (10yrs old) and I went for a late lunch. Our waitress took our order, we asked for lemonade, "it's not made yet", ok... huckleberry, "we don't have it either..." ok 2 chocolate shakes. ok. I asked for a patty melt and onion rings and a small cup of chili soup. My daughter ordered corn dogs. We saw our waitress leave (like to go home without saying anything). ...ok... Then another lady came out... she brought out our orders, but didn't bring my cup of chili and my daughter's meal was wrong, she brought her mac n cheese instead of the corn dogs. My daughter told her that wasn't what she ordered. The waitress was standing with us but was talking with another customer there. She was complaining that we should have ate inside since she was the only server for the whole place... I told her my daughter ordered corn dogs and she said that it was a whole other meal. My daughter asked for fruit and she brought her fries. I told my daughter to eat some mac n cheese while she waited and she said the pasta was cold. When the waitress brought me my soup, it was not only cold but rancid! I was going to tell the waitress, but the next time we saw her she brought out the bill and a take out box. I decided I would just tell the manager inside. My daughter wanted to get a pie, but the manager was on his personal cell and just charged me my meal. This was such a surreal experience as I have a ate in the past and even if they were crowded, the staff always had friendly smiles. Seriously heart-broken eating...
Read moreWent there today 10/22/23 for brunch with my husband. Wait was not long (20 min or so.). Food came out pretty quickhowever, the service by our waitress (Nadia V.) was horrible. She is rude, condescending, arrogant, and should be no where near a customer service job. I had ordered the menu item The Grizz which comes with a choice of eggs. I specifically told her eggs Sunny side up well cooked. When I received my order the egg yolks including the whites were no where half cooked. I sent them with the help of another waitress since Nadia had not come back to check on us after leaving the plates on our table. After about 5 minutes or so, Nadia came back with the plate of my well cooked sunny side up eggs. She had a face on and I told her thank you and that I had ordered them sunny side up well cooked (which is how I order them at other restaurants without issue). She responded with a nasty attitude âthereâs no such thing as sunny side up well cookedâ. âThey would be hard cooked or something like that.â Before I could respond to her how she could have mentioned that to me in the beginning when she took my order as âsunny side up well cookedâ she walked away leaving me talking to myself. Weâve been to other Black Bear Diners and have always enjoyed the food and the service has been great but this location in Downey unfortunately needs to do some trainings with their staff to sharpen their customer service skills. Not sure if the waitress was having a bad day but her rancid attitude left much to be desired. I hope she or her immediate Superior reads this review and realizes that customers actually think twice about where they take their hard earned money especially now a days. If employees are bitter and rude they should steer from dealing with the public in any way...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars I would wholeheartedly. My first time here after hearing and seeing ok things about it. I hope someone from the restaurant will contact me to discuss. My whole experience was absolutely đŻ horrible!
I brought my family from out of town to experience a nice local Downey favorite. There were nine of us and asked the hostess (she was horrible too) if they had a table and she sat us in a larger booth that should seat 6 people comfortably but definitely not 9. We were packed in like sardines in a can. The crazy thing is the restaurant was NOT busy! There were maybe 4-5 people there. We could have sat anywhere! Then, we proceeded to wait over half an hour and still no one came by to take drink orders or at least acknowledge our presence. My 80 year old dad even walked around to try and find someone to no avail. The sorry excuse for a hostess saw us and did NOTHING to find someone. She didn't look like she wanted to be there anyway. No smile or greeting when we came in. And no effort to make sure we were sat comfortably. We ended up leaving after nearly 45 min and it was only then that a waitress approached us but there was no way in hell we were staying. I will never come back here and I will never recommend this sad excuse for a restaurant to anyone. I don't wish bad things to people or places but I do hope this place closes soon and I believe they will based on my experience today. Black Bear Diner in Downey does not deserve anyone's...
