Very historic Southern Illinois Italian restaurant. Constantly a fine dining establishment over many years. Our dinners were very good. The bread sticks were not warmed as the warmer was not activated until later in the evening. My brother enjoys eating there weekly. We seldom miss an opportunity for their fine food when in the area. Once in the 1970s, after several days of local snow accumulation, we drove there from Nashville, IL, just to get out of our houses for a few hours... Ample off street parking at the rear of the building.

The restaurant is adorable. In a quaint building with a tin tile ceiling and an amazing fireplace, the atmosphere is fantastic. The service was great. The food was okay, but definitely not the best we've had. The pizza was probably the worst with a dry crust. The manicotti was good, but we didn't care a lot for the sauce. The cannelloni was probably the best item ordered in our party and was well received. The salad was sub-par and the breadsticks were store bought and dry.

Food was absolutely delicious. Fantastic service from our waitress Jada. Definitely looking forward to going back UPDATED POST: 02/10/2024 We love going to Alongi's. The service and food are always amazing. I decided to try something new today and got the Mushroom Ravioli with creamy garlic sauce. I have a new favorite dish. Their creamy garlic sauce is on point. Creamy perfection. Enjoy my complimentary birthday Spumoni.

I came here thinking it's an old establishment and would have quality Italian food. The chicken Marsala seemed to be similar to a frozen meal that was just microwaved before I got it lacking in flavor and looked like a processed chicken patty minus the breading, it was a perfect circle I've never seen anything like that. The bread stick was old, hard and lacking flavor. When they told me one of my side choices was French fries I should've went somewhere else. I don't think I've ever been to a Italian restaurant that has French fries now that I think about it. I also ordered a pizza too with everything on it but anchovies and hamburger. What I received looked and tasted like a pizza off of the Schawn's truck. I was expecting homemade crust at the bare minimum because of the history of the store and the quality reviews. The salad dressing was great though I will give them that. I believe this once was a great place to eat at one time but it seems like the new generation that runs this store are cutting corners from the original recipe. The food quality isn't the worst I've had but for the price and the price my stomach paid, even my dogs stomach was upset from just eating a few pieces of crust. I don't know what was in my food but it wasn't quality ingredients. I feel I was bamboozled I spent over 60 including tip and I had ordered carryout and still tipped %15 like a idiot.

I do...

We have been here numerous times and usually its alway pretty good. So this dinner had for our daughters 15 birthday with grandparents. The dinner started off i thought good until a table of 2 came in after us and then were served drinks and food before us which when i looked at my wife i thought "oh here we go" as in our service is going to go downhill. We ordered 2 apps to start and a couple of beers which my wife had to go to the bar to get her own because our server forgot i guess. We found it kind of odd that when my mom and i ordered our entrees our server asked if we would like pasta as a side 🤔 huh i would have thought we were at an Italian restaurant and pasta pretty much comes with everything unless noted or told which neither were done. It would have been nice to have been told otherwise. Overall my entree was wrong sauce my wifes was all wrong had to ask for our table to be prebussed as we sat and visited for a bit another beer would have been nice or even a water which i asked another server for. I spoke to the manager about the dinner issue and he told me that they need to work on being a little more clearer on that issue well on a $150 meal i was hoping for a little bit better experience but unfortunately it was a let down maybe next time if there is a next time it will be a better experience and...

Edited:. Aug. 25, 2020 Was very disappointed last week when I called in a lunch order at 3:15pm (website and sign on the building said, Lunch 11-4:30 pick-up only) which is what I planned to do. But when I tried to place my lunch order, I was told it was now dinner time. WHAT???? It stated lunch 11-4:30 pm so why did I have to change my order and also pay dinner prices when it was my lunch? Also, I ordered fries but got pasta instead. I do not plan on returning anytime soon, or if at all. I felt very deceived, almost like a bait and switch. If lunch pick-up is until 4:30pm, then why did I have to order from the dinner menu???

Original review: Portabella Ravioli was delicious and Ceaser Salad had a lot of parmasean cheese, which I loved Was do full I brought home some and had it for lunch the next day. I...
