You have no idea how happy it makes me that there's a cute local bagel shop near me. Located in The District in front of downtown Duluth, the restaurant is easy to locate and to get to. There are many parking spots within The District and if you like to hang out in downtown, it's not too far of a walk across. I drive past this area on a daily basis and I watched as The District was built from the beginning, always wondering what businesses would occupy the ground floor spaces. Downtown Duluth already has an incredible array of very unique, fun and delicious spots so I had high expectations of The District. When 101 Bagel installed their sign I was super excited! When it opened a few weeks ago I decided to meet up with my good friends there. We ordered a plethora of items off the menu and they came to us on time and didn't miss anything. (The smoked salmon is my favorite...) They have a variety of different flavored bagels and spreads (Honey Almond is my favorite here) and you will have options of toasting it if you want. They also have a salad bar, and a pastry display with cookies and muffins that change on the daily. (Have you seen their moonpies? They're MASSIVE LOL) My favorite thing about this place is their iCubez though... The coffee ice cubes that come with their iced coffee (Which they also have a variety of flavors ON TAP. Also there are numerous creamers and creamer alternatives which is great for people who are lactose intolerant.) The staff kept the place clean and was attentive to maintaining it as well. Though I've read some reviews before this and a few people have complained about their staff not knowing what they're doing, people have to start somewhere, and I think they're doing great even if they're novices. They're people too- not NPCs. ;)
Anyway. I love this place. My friends love this place and even my dogs love this place because they stole 3 whole bagels and ate them all while we were out. (Yes, they were wrapped up and put in a high place. lol) I recommend it to people who aren't overly critical about food. You can't really go wrong with a bagel place, they are very simple meals.
Also another interesting and fun fact... My father did the painting on their brick wall. He had sent me an image of it 2-3 weeks before their opening, and the day I went in I saw the painting and I immediately knew! He just didn't tell me this...

Downton Duluth has been exploding with new establishments and buildings these past couple of years, and what better way to make it that much better? By adding one of my fav things? A bagel shop! Well, besides the free parking and coffee ice cubes, I don't think there are any other pros to this place.
Cute decor and concept, but that alone wasn't enough. The staff is friendly but kinda unorganized and def understaffed. I personally also think the prices are a little steeper than they need to be. 3 people w/ food and 2 coffees ended up being close to $26. My boyfriend ordered a bacon, egg and cream cheese bagel. They def charged extra for the cream cheese although they rang it up as a bacon, egg and cheese AND cream cheese bagel. It took prob 20min for all of our stuff to come out. My sister ordered the loaded breakfast burrito which she said was good, but of course the boyfriends order came out with NO cream cheese hmm..... not the end of the world, but it was slightly annoying. My bagel with hummus and veggies was not hot and barely had any hummus on it. If you look around, there were several tables left uncleaned and dirty so that just turned me off entirely.
I love breakfast and love bagels, but this just wasn't that great. I'm sure with a few changes, it could be amazing! But for now, I'll have to pass...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat chill spot near downtown Duluth. The parking deck is located just behind the place in the apartment complex deck and seems to have plenty of parking while they're open. The service is good, and the workers seem to be pretty cheerful, so it makes the experience better.
The menu is filled with mostly coffee but they have a variety from your classic coffees to even some coffees with juice mixed in which are great! On top of that, if you get the iced coffee it comes with coffee ice cubes so your coffee doesn't get watered down it gets "coffee" downed!
The food options are great. Being is a bagel shop their bagels are huge and they don't skimp on whatever shmear you want so don't let the slight high price put you off cuz you'll be rewarded. Now, the best thing there to me, though, was their hashbrown bowl. The bowl was very dense packed full of the hashbrown, eggs and various breakfast meats they add in. Plus they give you a choice of cheese.
Overall, it is a perfect place to grab a coffee and a snack and pull out your laptop and do some work in a fairly quiet place...
