Tequila Val’s — Restaurant in Dundee Township

Was our first time here; overall a very good experience. They opened up the interior and managed to make it bright and elegant, not an easy feat given the prior dark, heavy space. The drinks were excellent and they give a good pour. Also have many Mexican beers on draft, which were ice-cold. The table side guacamole was very good, but we both felt over-salted. Could have used half the amount (believe they used 1-1/2 teaspoons coarse sea salt for 2 avocados). Boyfriend had steak fajitas, which he said was the best steak he ever had in fajitas. I had a taste and it was nice and medium rare and tender, but lacked in that smoky earthiness you usually get in fajitas. We both liked the beans, which had the cumin lacking in the fajitas. As others have mentioned, the rice was not very enjoyable. I ordered a fish taco, which was really good; loved the crunchy tortilla breading and it wasn't greasy at all and a nice portion. Also ordered a shrimp taco, which I took home, as the guacamole, complementary chips, and 3 salsas were so good and filling. The green salsa was my favorite with the red salsa my second favorite. The red bell pepper salsa was also tasty, but I prefer some heat. Biggest disappointment was when I had my leftover shrimp taco the following day. I didn't realize at the restaurant that the kitchen made it with none of the proper toppings. Was supposed to have black beans, lettuce, tomato, and a salsa. It literally had 3 small shrimp and cabbage, nothing else. We will be back; I'm sure they can can work through some of the minor tweaks needed in...

Tequila Val’s is probably one of the worst Mexican restaurants I have been to. If you want “authentic and fresh” go to Tio Ramos in Dundee. My husband and I went on a slow Sunday night at 7:45pm. We ordered the shrimp cocktail to start and it was okay. The shrimp was of cheap quality (if you eat seafood you will notice the difference in quality. For dinner I had two tacos: Al Pastor and Asada. Both were horrible. The Al Pastor was greasy and dry at the same time. Steak was flavorless and dry. You know it’s bad when the table next us asked for salt. I will say the ambiance is nice and drinks looked good. The service was okay, he tried his best and it was fine but there was a handful of employees talking next to the bar when there’s only three tables and all are receiving bad service. The key lime pie was decent, not the best I’ve had but it will do. The chips and salsa were sadly the best thing we had. I would never come back truthfully. As someone whose husband is Mexican and eats real Mexican food frequently this place has a lot of work to do. Additionally, the lady who kept bringing out our food was not grabbing the empty dishes which was weird since there was no busboy. Lack of service is very noticeable. This place will go downhill if changes...
