AJ's Cheesecakes — Restaurant in Durham

These cheesecakes are literally SOOO amazing and delicious!! I also tried the Oreo brookie and it was fantastic as well. I would pay top dollar to taste that brookie straight out of the oven lol. The desserts are served cold/frozen which is perfectly fine by me! It doesn’t take long to thaw to a nice creamy texture for that cheesecake. For the sweet potato cheesecake, I would’ve loved a little more crunch on it like maybe an oat/granola crumble with vanilla extract, maple, and cinnamon on top of the sweet potato. Something with a crunch, I didn’t really expect it to be just sweet potato pie filling on top of cheesecake lol. Maybe in the future they’ll had something to it. Either way, it was still well executed and delicious, I would get it again. It would be especially delicious to someone who loves sweet potato pie.That pecan pie cheesecake looks amazing, will definitely be trying that one next. The brookie was better than expected, it had some nice chocolate chip pieces mixed in it which was a pleasant surprise. It was the best brookie I’ve ever had in my life.The desserts are super sweet so there’s no way I could finish it in one sitting— worth the money because it lasts a few days. Even if you eat it all at once, it’s still worth the money because the flavors are the BOMB! The location isn’t the best there was actually a crackhead outside my vehicle, but we are all human beings so if you think you’re “too good for the hood” then you’ll just miss out on greatness hahaha. As for me? I don’t mind the location. It is what it is. I notice people tend to mind their business in the hood…as long as you’re not in their business you’ll be just fine. It’s highly unlikely that you’ll get attacked by just trying to get some dessert lol. Really good, black owned, and unique. I can’t wait...

I was really looking forward to trying this place out, and I love supporting small local businesses but it’s not really worth the hype. After reading a few reviews I understand why the cheesecake comes frozen, it’s great you don’t use any preservatives but maybe a heads up would be nice or maybe a sign stating to let it thaw out before consuming. It took about an hour for all of them to be even soft enough to stick a fork into it.

After waiting and trying them I was really disappointed, they all tasted like straight cream cheese with toppings mixed into them. Nothing like cheesecake. I got 4 slices and they were all straight cream cheese.

If your product isn’t that good at least have some decent service. I wasn’t expecting 5 star top tier service but as a first time customer if I have a question about a product I’d expect maybe just a simple explanation of what it consists of or a brief description of what your product has. I asked about a chocolate cheesecake and the response was one worded “chocolate”. Tried to word it different because I thought I didn’t ask my question right and I could only get the reply ”chocolate”.

All in all, just a disappointing experience. I’m all for giving the benefit of the doubt, maybe you were having a rough night but the product...

Most amazing cheesecakes we have ever had. Well worth the price. So decadent and delicious that it’s special enough to be a birthday or anniversary request between my spouse and I. This is after one order from AJ’s.

The tiramisu has an excellent crust, the bake on the cheesecake is really good. Light and fluffy and captures the flavor of tiramisu without being tiramisu. It’s kind of sour which I like. The tiramisu on top is amazing. If it could possibly make the cheesecake better it definitely does. 15/10 cheesecake.

There are so many great option for vegans, it is impossible to find a vegan cheesecake anywhere and this one was amazing on top of being available in a number of flavors. We tried raspberry vegan and it did not disappoint. Light, fluffy, excellent and most satisfying tang — really refreshing in hot months but I’d eat it year round!

Lastly we tried the mixed fruit. Once again, amazingly light, well baked. The fruit pairing is ingenious and complements the cakes perfectly. Very fresh, tropical fruit flavors — what an Orange creamsicle aspires to be.
