The House Fish & Crab — Restaurant in Durham

Excellent friendly and cheerful service...Durham needed a seafood restaurant near NCCU and The House Fish & Crab more than fits the bill. I ordered the shrimp and fish platter. The price was very reasonable with large portions and three sides .. well, actually four sides if you count hush puppies which lately some seafood restaurants don't automatically include (blasphemy for any restaurant serving traditional NC Seafood fare).

The shrimp and trout were delicious and fried exactly how I like them (they even ask you if you want your fish fried "hard." Now if that doesn't signify you're at a soul food restaurant, nothing will); the cole slaw was right in the pocket for traditional, sweet, creamy NC cole slaw (thank you!); the corn on the cobb had a fantastic flavor; and the fries, although not spectacular, didn't disappoint. Ive had them from grubhub before and they were delicious! But today I decided to go dine in and was very disappointed in my visit. I ordered a large trout which consisted of 3 pieces of fish, fries and hush puppies. After 35 minutes of waiting I get my order and I don't even have fries or hush puppies. I informed the cashier and she let the kitchen know. I went back to my table and looked at the fish and I see it's just 2 pieces of fish. At that point I asked for a refund because we were trying to get a bite before we went to the movies and I couldn't keep waiting. Very disappointed. I do want to say the cashier was helpful and gave me a refund, it also was not her fault because everything on the receipt is exactly what I ordered. So this was a kitchen error. Despite the reviews I decided to give it a chance since the food is supposed to be amazing. Well we order the the Country boil and it just tasted like steamed seafood with a little bit of seasoning and butter on top, the lemonade wasn’t good either it tasted like kool aid powder and the whole place needs a deep clean up, floor was sticky, the windows were dirty there was gum on the walls, martini glasses hanging on the bar look super greasy and dirty and the list goes on.
