The place looks nice from the outside, patio umbrellas, drive-thru pretty clean, pretty new. When you go inside still looks okay, but it seems as though the the employees in the front could use some training in general courtesy and customer service. It was not busy when I came in on a Saturday, I was the only one at the front ordering counter and a young lady from almost the back says "for here or to go"? Could have said "hello", could have said "welcome to Pops" could have said "hi". So I smiled and said hello waiting for a response and she said "was that for here or to go"? I realized she knew what I was saying but chose not to respond so I placed my order. She gave me the total took my credit card and then slid me back the credit card, receipt, and a plastic number. I sat down and waited and soon my number was called......
THE FOOD: I got a beef sandwich with mozzarella and hot peppers and a hotdog with everything (which comes with a small fry). The hot dog and bun was kind of mushy with relish, tomato and that's it. I went back up to the front to get sport peppers, and two young ladies saw me walk up and turned and started doing something else so I just started talking, and saying "excuse me I ordered everything on my hot dog, and there's no sport peppers on it". The original cashier told me "oh we only put sport peppers on a Chicago dog" and I said "well can I have some" so she went and talked to the kitchen guy and came back with a paper wrapped bunch of sport peppers. I ate half the hot dog it wasn't that great ...sport peppers were good. The fries were hot they tasted okay. The beef sandwich was kind of a mess, the beef itself did not taste like pops on the southside of Chicago, the mozzarella cheese was some kind of shredded mess, no flavor or taste to it, hot peppers were sliced celery in a sauce with peppers. All in all this could be a good spot but the employees need training on customer service and although there was a manager there it look like she was...
Read moreCalled the dyer location because they mess up my order every single time. I am in the food service industry myself and understand how mistakes can happen from training/ being short staffed and still trying to get orders out so I NEVER COMPLAIN. Today on 4/5/22 at 4:59pm I went to the dyer location and spent $40. I always get a beef sandwhich and ask for mozzarella cheese with the bread dry and it’s never dry. Today was no different as my order was not to my request with the bread dry. But wait there’s more. I also ordered a super beef with sausage and got a beef with no sausage or red sauce. Seeing as I paid for this it should be on there. I called the store and was as polite as possible as I stated earlier MISTAKES HAPPEN. However I was met with a VERY unapologetic manager (Andrea) who kept addressing me as hun which I find highly disrespectful. I am not her Hun. Furthermore I explained I understand mistakes happen but asked to be credited for two beef sandwhiches as I had just gotten home and didn’t have time to drive 25 minutes back to the store. She told me no and I would need to bring the food back. I explained to her if I brought the food back I want a full refund and she said that’s fine are you gonna come back? I just find this highly disrespectful and not how you deal with customers in this industry. Let’s all remember without customers you wouldn’t be there and neither would anyone else. It’s not the biggest deal but when your met with someone like Andrea who’s representing your company it is. Non of my staff would ever treat a guest like this and neither should POPS franchise. Please correct this immediately and or give her some more training on how to deal with the public and make a situation right. That’s guest service 101. Also when a guest requests your managers name or asks how to get a hold of him don’t get nasty. He’s not the president and I’m sure he would much rather have someone call him than post about his...
Read moreI drive by this location every day, each time I engage in the internal conversations with myself about scoping this place out. Well the day finally came. I ventured out to do some geocaching along this historic section of RT30, a puzzle cache just up the street required some thought. No better time to grab some lunch, warm up a bit, check out Pops and have a place to figure out my puzzle. Walking in through the patio entrance, glide passed the facilities and cast upon a huge menu overhead. I must admit I felt awkward presented with so many choices. I allowed a couple of people to go ahead of me so I could process the menu and weigh the value of the combo meals. Finally I opted for the Italian Beef Sandwich. Well..... Let sum things up like this, once you have experienced Portillo’s Italian Beef, I have yet to experience a better sandwich. That stands true today with the Pop’s variety. I ordered it Hot & Sweet with Motz and dipped. Opened the Wrapper revealing bright Green slice of jalapeño peppers accompanied by 2 large chunks of under cooked Sweet bell pepper and a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese. Nothing (unfortunately) like the Portillo‘s Italian beef sandwich. The same can be said about the flavor profiles. It was disappointing at best, but served its purpose. I continued with my puzzle, looking up ever so often to watch the creepy bald guy hover by the TV and soda dispensary. I spent about an hour observing while eating and doing my puzzle, the place was clean, the staff was cordial but counter staff could use some customer service training. With so many menu items to choose from, I’m not going to write the place off yet. I’ll be back to try something different in hopes of a...
