We use to frequently go to Wyatts in Hastings before they closed. We spoke with the owner often and knew how much pride he had in his food. Unfortunately the Eagan location does not meet his standards when he is not there. We went on Friday 3/1/19 approximately 9:30pm. There are approx 8 patrons in the place, not busy but it was bad weather outside. The bartender was tending tables. He came over and gave us menus and left. When he returned her asked if we would like a drink. I asked if he could make an orangetini and he said we don't make those kind of drinks here. We have a full bar but no specialty liqueurs. I said okay what about a cosmopolitan. He said okay. He wanted to walk away but I quickly stopped him and said we would like to order. We didn't want to have to wait longer to give our order. It was very clear that he did not want to wait on us. We ordered the onion rings and the fish dinners. I then received my cosmopolitan. It was the worse drink I have ever had. I couldn't even sip it. Too much lime juice and I think it was missing triple sec. We he brought out the onion rings, he just set them done and turned around and I had to get his attention to tell him that my drink was not good. He could of cared less. Grabbed it and started to leave and I asked if he used lime juice and that I didn't think you are supposed to use lime juice. He snapped back and said that it does and he used fresh. He never asked me if I wanted it remade or something else and went back to the bar. I just knew that it didn't taste good. He finally returned with a glass of water. I was just going to order another drink that he could make. Oh well. I just knew at this point it was not going to be a good experience. The onion rings were not rings. They were like shoestring onion rings fried together to form a clump. Some of the dough in the middle was raw. At this point we didn't even want to see what the fish was going to be like. Well, I would suggest never eating their fish. Absolutely terrible!! We received 2 large pieces that barely had any fish in the middle. One of my husband's piece of fish didn't have any fish in it. 6" of dough fried. Also the dough had absolutely no flavor, Just grease taste. French fries were cold and not cooked thoroughly. Coleslaw was room temperature warm which should be cold. Left that alone..afraid of potential health hazard. The bartender then comes back and I was afraid to complain but it was awful!! He apologized and said they hadn't made fish yet tonight. I then asked if he could get order with less batter and not overdone. Well when that came out the color looked better but now we knew why we couldn't find the fish in our first order because the fish was only 1/4 inch thick which looked like 2 thin strips. Very disappointed!! Well at least we didn't have to pay for 1 meal...
Read moreI stopped at about 5:30pm on a Wednesday. Not real busy, but there were several families on the patio and some bar patrons. The sign said to wait to be seated, but then the hostess/waitress said I could sit wherever I wanted. Despite the low attendance, it took over five minutes before a waitress came to my table at all. She asked what I wanted to drink but still didn’t leave a menu. I ordered one of their homemade sodas (raspberry). It turned out to be quite good. I ordered a refill later.
After three subsequent stops at the table over another fives minutes (bringing my drink, bringing a menu, taking my food order), I ordered my food. With 33 different burgers on the menu, it was clear that a burger was in order. Four of the burgers were made with ground ribeye, so I figured this must be the best of their selection. I ordered the “Fine Dining Steak Burger”, “basted with herb butter, balsamic garlic portabella mushrooms & crispy French fried onions”, with ranch coleslaw as the side.
There is a disclaimer at the top of the burger section that states “ALL BURGERS ARE COOKED TO MEDIUM TEMP UNLESS REQUESTED OTHERWISE”. Medium sounded fine to me, so I didn’t ask for anything special. Big mistake! The burger when delivered was so overcooked that it approached hockey puck consistency. I had anticipated the marbled fat flavor that rib eyes are known for. But pretty much all fat and flavor had been completely cooked out of this burger. If this was “medium”, “well done” would have been rock hard. The portabella mushrooms on the burger were tasty, as were the fried onion rings. They saved the burger from being a complete disaster. The ranch coleslaw was quite tasty and worth recommending.
The expected contact from the waitress, asking how my meal was, never came. It had already been delivered by another waitress because the first was swamped. The original did bring the check when requested.
The ambience was quite friendly, and people seemed to be having a good time, so I’m guessing this is a regular haunt for the locals. Unfortunately, the wait staff was understaffed (at least this evening), so my meal took considerably longer than expected for a neighborhood burger/bar place.
So a summary of my experience was a fun looking place with mediocre service (due to staff levels), good homemade sodas, a really poor burger with tasty condiments. Hopefully the burger chef is not their regular so a return visit might be better. While there were a few redeeming characteristics, I doubt I’ll make that return visit. Just too many shortcomings in a market with...
Read moreMy family was excited to visit after seeing the menu online. That said, we all agreed the menu is written in such a way that everything sounds amazing and creative. The server was unfamiliar with the menu and the device she was given to take our order on. She was polite, however. I ordered the 1/2 lb Smoke Bomb burger. It was clearly not 1/2 lb and was obviously smaller than the 1/2 lb burger my husband ordered. It was prepared well done and very dry even though the menu clearly states that all burgers are prepared medium unless requested otherwise. The burger was also unseasoned and had no flavor. The Havarti cheese that was supposed to be on it, wasn't. The server asked if she should have the kitchen remake it. I said no, since it took 22 minutes to get the first order even though we were one of 3 small tables of guests in the whole establishment. The bacon did not taste smoked as stated, the mushrooms had no flavor of the balsamic-garlic, and the onions were not caramelized. Overall, very bland and very disappointing. My daughter ordered the smokehouse which was served on a bun slightly larger than a hot dog bun. It was mostly bun with maybe a 1/4 cup of smoked chicken on it. The meat tasted smoked and the BBQ sauce she choose was good. However, it was supposed to be topped with coleslaw but she was never served any. The fries were supposed to be seasoned but were also very bland. My son's chicken sandwich was also lacking flavor. My husband's burger did not contain the thick cut bacon that was described in the menu and also lacked seasoning. The server offered no discount. Overall, the visit was a huge disappointment given our initial excitement to try a new place. Certainly not worth the $13-14 per meal that they charged. We thought it would be better priced at $8 - $11 per meal. Other than that, the ambiance was nice and the bathrooms were clean. We will not be returning nor would we suggest anyone...
