Highway Country Kitchen — Restaurant in East Bernard

Ordered the large appetizer plaza for a bridal party . The so called nachos had little cheese and 5 orange peppers, basically just chips. Fried pickles were part of the appetizer, but they were out so we asked to substitute wit h more cheese sticks and the cook would not. She said only fries or jalapeños were our only choice, ( how u out of something then want to give the crap people don’t want?) because the large platter looked like crap we added a large onion ring which came in the Platte, (but was enough for a new born to eat) so this additional order added only 6 more onion rings. The frozen watermelon slushy had no liquor taste present. So this 25.00 dollar platter turned into 109.00 once we had to keep adding stuff . Boneless wings were decent. We asked for the cook manager to come talk to us and she would not. She kept having the bar tender rely her messages. I guess when you’re in a town where your business is the only bar like place , you can serve whatever cause the town has nothin much to offer! They are definitely over charging. And also no gloves on while cookin....

We went here 6.13.23 on our way to Seguin from Houston and on our way back to Houston 6.14.23. Pulled pork sandwich both times; Diablo Burger, Pork Skins, and Saint Arnold's Root Beer 1x. Pulled Pork sandwich was so good, we came back the next day for another. I was concerned the Chipotle BBQ sauce would be spicey, making the pulled pork sandwich weird an unfamiliar to me but it didn't taste like it with the coleslaw and onion ring on that fabulous Brioche bun. It was dee-lish! Both days we were there, we had French Fried potatoes and French Fried sweet potatoes, each were perfectly fried to a crispy texture. The Diablo Burger was spicey good, plenty of fire if that's your thang. I could've done with fewer jalapeños. The Pork Skins were done up just right and plenty for 2 ppl to share. I'd get that root beer, again - I'll have to save room for a root beer float next time. The service was spot on, top notch. We were told that pool is complimentary on Tuesdays, so that's a cool bonus. I highly recommend Highway...

Most of the food is great. Take a little bit to get it but most of the time it's worth it. I think they fall short on the burgers and sandwiches with one piece of fancy lettuce that wilts quickly. Also tried the pulled pork and if they added 2 more table spoons of slaw it would really look like something. My hubby's burger looked unappealing and not at all like I expected it to look. The appetizer tray was awesome but if you order the half you don't get a few things that the full comes with and I can't eat a double and no one but me seems to have it for choice so I felt disappointed but what was there was delish. Over all I have enjoyed most of the items. I have been back several times. Willing to try it again I just with they would give their burgers and sandwiches hight with some ingredients and maybe check to make sure the cook is using half pound patties when the burger says that's what...
