03.20.25- 'Big Al's Reel Reviews'- East Coast Taco 👎🏾 51 W. Main St. Niantic, CT

04.02.25 UPDATE: East Coast Taco must have blocked my account and untagged their businesses to this HONEST REVIEW. That tells you a lot about them and the review they EARNED. 👎🏾 Absolutely Horrible! 👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾

03.23.25 UPDATE: 👎🏾This spot, East Coast Taco in Niantic, CT provided me with horrible and rude service, as they have done to many other people of color, this has since been posted by people having the same horrible experiences that I shared in my Reel👎🏾. So many people of color shared the same feeling of being unwelcomed and as if they were inconveniencing the staff. Sadly I have come to the conclusion that we are just NOT welcomed at East Coast Taco and that's why they earned the 👎🏾 and I will never return 👎🏾😞

I love Tex-Mex food so I decided to order a bunch of items on the menu to review:

1.Chips & Salsa $7.00 👍🏾 (2) Blackened Shrimp Tacos $9.00👍🏾 (2) Pulled Pork Tacos $9.00💣 Pulled Pork Taquitos $9.00👍🏾 Grilled Steak Burrito $12.00👍🏾 Plus tax + $21tip

A Great spot has great customer service, nice atmosphere and most importantly Good food. And the food at this spot was all good! The atmosphere was decent but unfortunately their customer service was undeserving of a Good 'Big Al's Reel Review' because I was certainly not very welcomed there and I felt it from the moment I walked into the door. I was very friendly, polite and excited to try their food. This was the first time that I have actually felt uncomfortable sitting there but thankfully their food was real good. As I sat eating I noticed the Interactions between the two employees and other customers were very positive and pleasant so I am sure many customers can share great experiences but that was just not the case for me. Just being honest and keeping it Real.

For that reason I simply would not recommend this spot to anyone Disclaimer: I am certainly not telling you to not go there.

East Coast Taco earned the thumbs 👎🏾

'See you on the Rebound, Peace out' ☝🏾❤️...

Well the day car in the ambience of this small privately owned text Mex restaurant is incredible it fails to live up to the expectation of food that I had. Vegetarian chili was tasty but a little bit on the sweet side. Queso was below-average lacking that distinguishing flavor. The guacamole was refrigerated and really had no taste to it besides salt. Did tortilla chips and their fresh salsa on the other hand were fantastic. The chips were fresh they were seasoned with salt and pepper very lightly to add a good bold taste. I ordered a bean and cheese enchilada in red sauce with Mexican rice. The Mexican rice was closer to a cilantro white rice without any of the typical Mexican rice flavor and did not have any tomatoes in it either. While the red sauce on the enchilada was good the cheese felt like a mix that was bought from the grocery store instead of real Jack cheese. The bean enchilada would have been a better choice but even that on his own could not have saved this dish. That being said I imagine that this may be one of the better if not the best Tex Mex culinary options 75 miles up and down...

East Coast Taco is what we would call a “whole in the wall” eatery. This is not a bad thing in anyway. It just means it’s one of those places you drive by a million times but never stop, that is, until one day you hear from the 10th person this week that, “you must try East Coast Taco.” Okay, so we bit and here we are, trying everything on the menu. We ordered chicken, beef, and pulled pork tacos, both soft and hard shell. We ordered carnitas, rice and special cheese sauce. We were doing this up right. We took everything to the beach for dinner. It was all so delicious. The pulled pork tacos were a favorite and adding the cheese sauce on the rice was heaven. If you like yours extra hot there’s a sauce for that. You may want to call ahead because they were slammed when we went in but the staff was hopping and very...

I liked this place. It’s solidly good. Everything is made to order with fresh ingredients. Their salsas could use some refining - not a lot of flavor & depth to them. but I liked everything else. The chips are just standard thick corn fried tortillas chips so nothing great about them. I ordered the fried avocado soft taco which was fine except that the avocado was underripe so not ideal. The creamy chipotle sauce was very good but I think the avocado taco needs a savory salsa to offset the creamy avocado. I also had a pulled pork taco which was good - the salsa verse was good but not great. I will stop in again & try some other items.

Great fresh “tex-mex” food in a casual setting. The place is a little quirky but comfortable. Lots of options on the menu to the point where I was a little confused at first glance of the menu. The food was really good and the portions were perfect. I got a chicken burrito and was completely satisfied without chips when finished. My friend got the chicken jerk quesadilla and took a quarter of the portion home for later. I would definitely recommend getting an order of the chips. They are incredibly delicious and not overly salty. If you’re in the East Lyme/Niantic area, East Coast Tacos is a must to visit.
