Magela's Haitian Restaurant — Restaurant in East Orange

Not sure why there are so many low-rated reviews. I’ve been ordering from this place for a while, and the food is usually very good. However, a couple of days ago I ordered the legume with jon jon rice and unfortunately, both my daughter and I ended up with stomach issues and the runs. This was the first time I’ve ever felt unwell from their food.

Normally, everything is fresh and delicious, which is why I’m still giving four stars instead of five. In my opinion, this place doesn’t deserve one-star ratings for the food—maybe for the service if you don’t speak Creole, but honestly, that language barrier is part of what makes the experience authentic.

Will not be going there matter of fact will not be going to any Haitian restaurant. one time I ordered diri sos pwa I got sent only the rice when I called they told me they didn’t have any sos pwa. Yesterday I ordered black rice I got sent red rice it’s like a pattern when they don’t have something they will not call to let you know, they don’t care if you might be allergic if you do not like something they not gonna communicate

I ordered a black rice/ diri djondjon and got something different and the rice wasn’t good it wasn’t well presented. Why have a restaurant when you don’t know how to serve people I ordered that because I know for sure I’ll get macaroni on the side, salad, and all the good stuff when preparing food on a Sunday in a Haïtian household.

I ordered legumes (with beef) for the first time on DoorDash last Friday. It was delicious! I loved it and left me and my coworkers wanting more. Then on Monday, we decided to go back and order the same thing only to find out when we got back from the restaurant that the legumes was made with pork which I’m allergic to. I called explaining what happened and was told that the first time I bought it wasn’t from them and they don’t make legumes with beef. I told the lady they should have specified what it came with because I never knew legumes was made with pork. None of the staff I talked to really apologized.
