China Gourmet — Restaurant in East Providence

I've been here on several occasions and always enjoyed the food & atmosphere. Unfortunately I will not longer come to this restaurant after today. We walked in, and the woman at the counter was taking what seemed to be a personal phone call. A man was folding boxes in the dining room. She seated us, while on the phone and continued her call for another 5 minutes. She came to the table, apologized and took our order - 2 soups and some entrees. Several people came and picked up there food. 10 minutes went by, and nothing. The owner(?) Seemed to start quietly arguing with the woman who was on the phone previously. 20 minutes went by. Still nothing. No one even checked on our table even though we were the only ones in the restaurant. After 30+ minutes and still not even a check in or even the appetizer of soup we ordered, we got up and left, extremely disappointed. I always made excuses for the extremely poor service we've previously received because it was mildly busy, but this is inexcusable. We will not be returning, and can see why the restaurant is...

The food here is decent. I’ve been here at least 30 or so times. This last time will be my last. I ordered our usual about $37 worth of stuff and asked them to add a $5 tip electronically before hand as I always do. I live on the same street as this restaurant and it’s about a half mile away. When my delivery driver gets here she calls me and tells me she’s here with my order and “..Thank you for actually tipping this time..” I ask the woman what she meant as I always send a tip through when I place the order and she decides to hang up on me. Then when I call back she ignores it. Only to call me back with an attitude and play dumb. I call the store and of course she lied to her boss and he backed her up. I don’t feel safe eating here again because someone who is hostile, entitled and a liar will most likely be handling the transport of my food. I'm being completely honest with this review. I have found a need to double check my take out orders at this restaurant. At first I discovered minor errors with my take out orders, nothing serious but for example a missing item or the wrong type of rice. It hasn't happened in months so maybe it was just a temporary situation. With that said, China Gourmet has by far the best food, I love this place. Their prices are just a little above average but well worth it. You get what you pay for and as far as we are concerned it's well worth it. The distance from my home takes me 25 minutes round trip, but China Gourmet is my first and only choice for Chinese food. I always get Chicken Chow mein combo and my wife gets Orange Chicken combo. Both are excellent and we keep going back for more. We are so happy that we found them 6 months ago. Well done and keep up the good work....
