I was visiting CT this weekend with my son and father for a wedding. This was my first time in CT and I certainly my hope the interaction my family had doesn’t represent the people of this little town. I enjoy supporting small businesses and thought this would be an ideal little “home in the wall” and “Ma & Pa” kinda place. We were quickly sat at a table and offered drinks. My father and I decided on coffee and my son had brought in an energy drink. He was informed by the waitress that no outside drink was permitted. He was disappointed but he took it back out to the car. My son noticed a sign that said cash only and I never carry cash. My father said he probably had enough cash on hand so we looked over the menu to choose our breakfast. After adding up what it would be after we picked our meals we saw that he didn’t actually have enough cash to cover it. We informed the waitress (who was kind each time we spoke) that we would need to leave because we didn’t have enough cash. I asked, “how much for the coffee” and she stated, “nothing, no problem.” We proceeded to thank her and got up to leave- my father had already made it out the door and as I began to walk toward the door I heard someone say with an attitude, “What we’re not paying for the coffee? It’s not like I can pour it back in the pot.” I turned around and made eye contact with a woman behind the counter who apparently was the OWNER. The waitress tried to explain our situation and that she had told us we didn’t need to cover the coffee. The OWNER again made a comment rudely about us being upset that we would need to pay for something we ordered. I stood there confused and a bit in shock that this encounter was even happening. I explained I had asked about the coffee and was going on what the waitress told us. Then the OWNER proceeded to get louder with her rudeness and comments. I told her I wasn’t angry about paying for coffee- but did inform her that I’m angry with her attitude. Against my better judgment I dropped $5 on the table for our coffee which (wasn’t sipped) and proceeded to walk out the door as the OWNER continued on with her comments. The owner should have had better previous communication with her staff to say we don’t allow people to leave without paying for water or coffee or juice for ANY reason (no matter how reasonable it may seem). I’m grateful to be a Veteran who has internal discipline, and a Christian because “Jesus took the wheel” before my disappointment and anger took over. I’m going to go with maybe she was having a bad day, maybe her tummy was upset, maybe she’s just a broken women who leads with attitude vs compassion. Gotta love it when Jesus puts a hand over your mouth! You’d be better off having a “Good Morning” at the nearby Cracker Barrel as we did, than supporting this establishment with a business woman who clearly doesn’t comprehend customer service, or...
Read moreNo Exceptions! Based on my experience here, you can have a good morning and a better breakfast & coffee by going elsewhere! Here is what happened on Sunday. When I entered the restaurant, I apologetically told the hostess I had my own coffee as I had purchased a large coffee from a drive through and then later decided to stop here for breakfast. She smiled and proceeded to seat me at a table and gave me a menu. After I took off my coat and sat down to look at the menu, the manager scurried over and huffed 😤 at me telling me they don't allow outside drinks. 🤔 I explained how I acknowledged my coffee earlier to the hostess and if it was a problem she should have said so, rather then seat me at a table. I asked if we could make an exception this one-time and the manager said "no". The manager said I could go outside to pour it out. I said "no, how about I just leave and tell everyone how rude I've been treated, with no consideration. So here I am, posting about my bad experience with Good Mornings Restaurant! No exception for one 16 oz coffee? They would rather lose a paying customer and get a bad review? Doesn't make too much sense but no worries, their coffee is actually the absolute worst, so no loss for me. On the way out, I enjoyed a sip of the delicious coffee I had apologetically brought with me and encouraged the manager to train the host staff better and maybe post a sign on the door, so everyone knows No Outside Drinks No Exceptions. 😝 Based on my experience here, you can have a good morning and a better breakfast & coffee by...
Read morePlease read until end... Today is the second visit to this restaurant and the first time that I have gone out for breakfast since covid hit. My husband would not be happy knowing that I gave three stars because he was very unhappy with his breakfast. He said his omelette was very bland and watery-like and that he only had about four pieces of onion in his home fries (when ordering you are specifically asked if you want onions on your home fries or not).
The service was great. My breakfast however was not quite as bad. My eggs were cooked perfectly and I enjoyed the home fries although I agree there could have been a lot more onions. I was very disappointed with my steak. I had asked for medium rare and it came out well done and it was very grizzly. The waitress graciously took it off our bill. I had also ordered cranberry juice and was not expecting almost pure cranberry juice that was so tart I could hardly drink it. Once I had watered it down a bit it was tolerable.
My first visit to Good Mornings was before covid & was fantastic, my breakfast was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was very homey and cozy. Maybe the cook was just a little off today. I will definitely give them another try, but I will not bring my husband because he would never...
