I used to live in Eastpointe and East Detroit Bakery was our go to place for most of our cakes, so when my son wanted a cake from there for his 21st birthday, I thought fine, a little nostalgia and we had always enjoyed the cake before with only a few exceptions. I went in to place the order and showed a picture of how we wanted it decorated. When we spoke with the âdecoratorâ she couldnât seem to figure out how to make the cake design(albeit a very simplistic one)she offered no other suggestions and no help whatsoever, so we decided to just order 2 plain cakes and I would put it together myself. The next day I called to make sure the smaller cake would be on a 6â board since i had to stack the cake myself and whoever answered didnât seem to have any idea what i was talking about and seemed very put out by my call and kept saying its in a plastic container and proceeded to hang up on me. So, since i had already paid for the cakes, we picked them up, i stacked and decorated the cakes almost identically to the picture I showed the so called cake decorator at the bakery and figured it would be ok. We cut into the cake looking forward to enjoying my sons 21st birthday cake and it was the most dry flavorless cake we have ever had! The frosting was sweet grease and the cake was extremely dry. I was embarrassed to serve it! So on top of being treated like I was bothering them, them not knowing or even offering to try to decorate the cake, AND hanging up on me, I now have a cake that no one wanted to eat!! It is very sad that they feel like they can treat people poorly because they are one of very few bakeries around and they put out such a bad product. NEVER again will i purchase anything from this bakery. A Meijers or Kroger cake would have been a thousand times better than what we had. Shame on you East...
Read moreI grew up on the outskirts of the East Detroit school district and have always known about the east Detroit bakery and went in there from time to time when I was in high school but found a new appreciation for it as I got older, especially into my mid to late 20 and early 30s. I absolutely love that they accept bridge cards. I find it so amazing and awesome how inclusive they make their company for people of all income levels. Their products are absolutely amazing and every time I come in it's always so hard to choose what to get because they have so many amazing options to choose from. Some of my favorites are there tiramisu which is one of my absolute favorite desserts of all time. So of course I had to try that and I fell in love. My grandmother loves their cheesecake because she's an absolute cheesecake thing and can never get enough. My aunt is a "choco"holic and is in love with all of their decadent chocolate desserts of course, and my sisters our vegetarian and allergic to nuts, but they always seem to find something absolutely amazing that they just can't help but devour every time I pick them something up from there. One of my absolute favorite things in the world is peanut butter, so I'm super excited to come and try some of their peanut butter desserts they have to offer. I know I'm a crazy person and def an odd one out but I'm not a fan of fruit but I want to try more of their delicious options they carry and would be SO HONORED if fellow East Detroit Bakery fans ( and WORKERSđ) would leave some of their favorite non fruit favorite desserts below because I will definitely try them!! Thank you all in advance and again thank you so much. East Detroit Bakery and Deli for being such an amazing bakery and creating such delicious...
Read moreAfter driving past this bakery many times, I finally decided to stop in over the weekend with three of my family members. My auntâs birthday is this week so we ordered her a cake with special instructions so it would be made exactly to her satisfaction. I paid for the cake in full and was told that we could pick the cake up today between the hours of 5p-6p. After working all day, I fought rush hour traffic from downtown Detroit to get to the bakery at the specified time. When I arrived to pick up the cake, to my surprise, not only was the cake not ready for pick up, but it hadnât even been made and no one could even locate the original order form. I was very disappointed and demanded that they contact the individual who took my order. I was told that the lady who took my order was new and they had no way of contacting her because they didnât have her contact information. After being dissatisfied with that response, I spoke to one of the owners of the shop via phone. After not happily accepting her apology or excuses for this major failure, she told me that everybody makes mistakes and sheâs only human. I couldnât believe what I was hearing. This was certainly not the approach to take if youâre trying to de-escalate a situation. Long story short, the lady took my money, never submitted the order, I wasted my time driving all the way there straight from work, my aunt didnât get her special order birthday cake and I was treated as if I was overreacting to their failure. That was my first and last experience with East Detroit Bakery. I will NEVER return. If I could give zero...
