I live outside of the area, so this was my first and probably last visit. I have family in New Paris Ohio so we visit the area often, and are always looking for new places to visit! Someone recommended The Stable so we checked it out and I've got to say I left so disappointed. The food wasn't bad, actually pretty good we even ordered the same appetizers twice because they went so quickly. However, being the only table of customers with only three customers at the bar we were definitely made to feel like a burden to the bartender and others working/standing in a group talking. I had to go up for every single drink refill at our table (and I was drinking a mixed drink!) Also had to get our own silverware after standing at bar trying to get her attention. Again the whole time we were there we were the only people at any tables, with three individuals sitting separately at the bar. My daughter was given a soda that was half full and told "sorry I ran out, I'll have to get more" ...but again I had to go and ask for something else for her. The salad was the last item we ordered to come out of the kitchen, and it looked great but also felt like it had been sitting because it was as cold and fresh tasting. I remained patient and kind, as I do work in the industry as well and I gave more opportunities then I should have. We spent around 160 total, and still were treated like we shouldn't have been there.
Very disappointing when you consider that the food was actually pretty good! So maybe order a carryout. ..? Or maybe this was some kind of off day ...? I'm not sure, but we don't usually return to places that make our whole group feel uncomfortable. And yes I took my kids into this establishment, I called ahead of time to verify it was okay to bring in a 16, 15 and 11 year old and was told it was completely okay. We went in at dinner time hours, when it was slow so please no negative comments about my review with regards to my children being...
Read moreKaren's Cafe is a masterclass in terrible service. The reviews are true, and I think they should fully embrace their vibe, and change the name accordingly. Unwelcoming, rude, and generally unkind. Food is fine. No reason to stop unless you have an angry mom/grandma kink.
There was a single boomer bartender taking care of a pretty small crowd of customers in a way that only a true Karen could pull of the way she did. I immediately felt like my presence unwanted as soon as I walked in the door. Bartender talks almost exclusively to the regulars until she finally decides she'll come over and ask what you want to drink. She didn't give me a menu, so I borrowed one from a table behind. Prior to getting my own menu, I asked if I could borrow a menu from one of the many empty tables behind me and she said "or you could just wait and I'll get you one here in a minute, it won't take me that long." I'm not a terribly impatient person, but she was not coming back anytime soon, so I just grabbed a menu. I ordered two items, that I think were both slightly wrong, which also gave me a giggle. It was just 6 wings and I am pretty sure 6 spicy shrimp, that's why I went with 6 wings to match. The wings, I thought were a dry rub turned out to be the wettest, hottest wings I've had in a long time. Not what I wanted, but pretty tasty! The spicy shrimp I expected based on the menu description was like 6 large spicy fried shrimp, instead it was popcorn shrimp with like sweet and sour sauce on it. When I didn't eat the shrimp, the bartender came over and said "what? You didn't like the shrimp?" I lied.
Well, the wings are good and the service is bad. The price was fairly low compared to chain restaurants. This is the sort of 4 star spot I look for, honestly. Pretty good food and bad service. Puts it just below 4.4/4.5 that it would be if not for Karen. See ya...
Read moreWhen i first started coming here, i absolutely LOVED this place. Wings were amazing, burgers were an icon, cocktails were something you couldnt find anywhere else, and trust me, i tried. But for about a month or two, this place has gone down hill. We get the same waitress most of the time, and she's a sweetheart and we always tip her well. But today, it felt like it was a exclusive club that we weren't apart of. Some lady in the corner with a stable tshirt on, with a group of friends acted like she owned the place. Bartender asked for more mugs cause she was out, so i offered my mug up because i was finished. The lady got an attitude and pointed to her shirt and said "im not a waitress right now, im not getting you another drink." After i made it very clear that i wasnt asking for another, because my ACTUAL waitress already asked me. When we went to leave this lady "thats not a waitress right now" went to bus our table and im assuming her husband mean mugged us as we left because it said 0 on the tip on the receipt when we tipped our waitress in cash, well over 20%. This place gets worse and worse everytime i come, and its really...
