I was in town and I wanted a cinnamon roll to drive home with. Saw what looked like a solid cinnamon roll, and decided on this place. The cinnamon roll, was either a chocolate roll, or from another day, they don’t have them available on Fridays. This is my disappointed script.
I’m an adult though, and I have to stop for coffee, though they had an attached ish Starbucks. I usually prefer smaller cafes, don’t read my Caribou post it was a rough morning. I decided on their chocolate not cinnamon roll look alike, a scone, and a pull apart that had that wonderful cinnamon name on the tin. It was all fine (I’m writing this later so I could try them all).
The chocolate not cinnamon roll, was fine. It left me craving a cinnamon roll, so I tried the scone once I got a beverage. It was a cranberry and citrus something, glazed. It was fine and puffy. I should have left that for a day old, I’ve had better freshly baked scones, more what I expect than this fluffy glazed thing. The flavor profile was great though, tangy and sweet. It also didn’t fill that cinnamon hole, though it did remind me that things not cinnamon can be delicious - even when the texture is sad.
I was helped quickly, the staff was kind, and i was paid and on my way in less than 10 minutes. My questions were all answered, though I was not upsold on anything, and feel like they missed an opportunity to help me find exactly what I wanted when I was informed cinnamon rolls were an other day thing. She told me the day, I just couldn’t care since I was leaving town. It’s a great way to keep people coming back, except when they’re never going to come back.
Oh, so the cinnamon pull apart bread, the saddest loaf of unfulfilling promise yet. I got a share size, a good pull apart I’ll accidentally not share, so I figured I should get something I might share. The Great Harvest cinnamon pull apart has ruined glazed, partially cinnamoned, baked dough for me. I’ve made my own, and it’s not easy, or as good. This cinnamon … sadness is almost unworthy of the declaration. I would return it except it would be 400 miles round trip of driving to return this unsatisfying loaf, and it seems like more effort than they put into crafting this piece to begin with. Of all the things I thought would fill the cinnamon hole, this was it, and was I wrong. If you like bread with a hint of cinnamon, maybe this is for you, with that powder sugar glaze on it. If however you hear cinnamon first when you hear or read cinnamon roll, and not roll with cinnamon, go try the pull apart from Great Harvest.
Perhaps this is all on me, I didn’t get any bread from Breadsmith, though I also looked for cinnamon roll and got this place. Do not listen to the algorithm. If you’re looking for a cinnamon roll, or cinnamon anything, you can do better elsewhere.
If you’re looking for a bread forward accented with flavor kind of place, maybe this is for you! I am...
Read moreI always have high hopes/expectations going into Breadsmith and sometimes they’re met, sometimes not. The employees are consistently pleasant which says a lot since they’re often busy. The store always seems clean and organized. The prices are reasonable imo considering it’s a bakery and goods are made fresh. However I find some of their baked goods are delicious while others are lacking or inaccurate in their description. Taste is somewhat subjective but following are my take(s) on some of the things I’ve purchased: BREAD: what I’ve had has been very good. Mostly baguettes, challah rolls and hoagie rolls. The hamburger buns were very heavy. Too heavy for me. SCONES: The 2 flavors were large and delicious. Dryish but that’s a Scone. BROWNIE: they are huge and labeled as fudgy. They are cakey imo. CROUTONS: very garlic forward. If you like garlic, possibly a couple hours after eating them, you’ll like these. CINNAMON ROLLS and BABKA ROLLS have been disappointing. Lacking strong flavor and on the dry side. PUMPKIN BREAD with walnuts: Good but not great. It’s more pumpkin spice flavored rather than pumpkin (pie) flavored. I will likely continue to try different items as their selection is huge including daily and seasonal options. The bakery only atmosphere is a nice change to the everything and the kitchen sink stores...
Read moreI am partial to Breadsmith, having lived in Milwaukee and spent time constantly searching for bread in the Parisian manner until I found Breadsmith. In France, good bread is vital to any decent meal. After moving to Minneapolis a couple of weeks ago, I was surprised to see a Breadsmith in Edina. Yet, it seems Edina has everything except a lake, diversity and cheap prices. A line was moving fast, and I had my order ready in my head. Unfortunately, the staff at the Breadsmith in Edina did not speak English well, surprising for Edina. It was comforting, more like my hood near Lake Street, but sadly my order was screwed up, and when I arrived home 35 minutes later, several items were missing. Begrudgingly, I drove back to Edina and picked up my missing items. It took an extra hour at least. My three loaves of bread were great though, and it was cool Edina celebrated one aspect of diversity. An extra hour isn’t too bad. Breadsmith makes...
