Spalon Montage — Local services in Edina

AVOID this salon, unless you like dirty salons! I was given a dirty rag full of dirt and hair to wipe my nose with. Here is the full story. I signed me and my sister in law up for the Montage Classic Retreat package to celebrate her beating cancer. The salon/spa was dirty, the spa lunch was terrible and the worst part was getting my shampoo/style. Before getting to the style part, the stylist Ciara washed my hair and when I got to her station, I asked if she had any tissues because I needed to wipe my nose. She said, No, we don't have any tissues (what salon doesn't have tissues???). I said...ummm ok..well maybe I can go to the bathroom. She said, oh, well I have a towel you can use (I assumed a clean one), so I accepted. I wiped my nose and didn't bother to analyze the towel before using it. Then, I was finished with the towel (I actually held it for about 15 minutes) and I was going to fold it neatly and set it on the station. As I start to open the towel, there was a wad of dirt and black hair the size of a CD in the towel that I used to wipe my nose with!!! I was SO appalled...my sister in law was sitting next to me waiting to get her hair done and saw the disgusting dirty hair wad and she immediately ran up to the front desk to find a manager and notify her of the situation. It is two days after this event and I am now sick with a sore throat, nausea, and stuffy nose- I believe it is from the germ infested dirty hair rag that Ciara gave me.

To add to the terrible experience, I told the stylist I wanted "bombshell" hair- big sexy wavy curls with some teasing- any stylist should be able to do this look, even I can do it myself. She (Ciara) curled my hair and it was a poofy disaster of tight curls that made my long shiny hair short, curly, and frizzy. She attempted to brush out the curls to try to fix it but it just made my hair poofier and ugly. The manager offered to have it fixed by another stylist- and I reluctantly accepted, I just wanted to leave because I was so fed up and disgusted.

All of the stations were dusty, dirty, with hair all over the floor, just plain disgusting. It is not hard to simply wipe down your area and do a quick sweep- would take all of 3-5 minutes to do this before your next client. Even the bathrooms were dingy and dirty. I will NOT be going back to the Spalon Montage in Edina. I have been to the Woodbury and Chanhassen Spalon's and they are clean and nice. Don't waste your time in Edina unless you like...

I'd like to say that while my initial experience at this spa wasn't great, the spa manager went above and beyond to apologize for the inconvenience, comp'd my massage, and gave me a gift card for my facial which I wasn't able to get in for on my first visit.

You have to call to request an appointment, which on one hand I get as there are a lot of services you can book at this place, but you don't get any type of email or text message confirmation prior to your visit, which I think could have prevented the scheduling issues on my first visit.

I was supposed to go in for a facial at 2pm, then a massage at 3pm. I was not familiar with the spa area as I had never been here before, so I got a quick rundown from the lady who checked me in, and when I changed and went to the lounge, my massage therapist called my name right away. The massage was ok, and honestly more expensive than it should be for the quality of the massage.

Once the massage was done, I was instructed to sit in the lounge to wait for my next service. There are no clocks anywhere, and you lock up your belongings in a locker, so it wasn't until I went back to the locker room to use the restroom and check my phone that I noticed I had been waiting for almost an hour - which I thought had maybe only been 30-45 minutes. At this point, I went to find an employee, and she looked on the schedule that she didn't even have me down for a facial. This is when the spa manager took over and after looking into it more, noticed that I was scheduled for the facial, but the technician claimed she couldn't find me. I'm guessing since I had been called for my massage first, the technician had not seen me in the lounge and likely assumed I cancelled. Unfortunately, it was too late in the day to still get my facial in, hence the gift card and me needing to reschedule.

While at the end of the day, mistakes happen, I did find it odd that while employees were coming in and out of the lounge area pretty regularly, no one seemed to notice I had been waiting for an hour and cared to check on me. Again, being a first-timer, I'm not sure of the process or flow of things, so I waited longer than I normally would have to say anything until I knew something had to have been wrong.

After years of bouncing from salon to salon around the 50th and France area, I randomly made an appointment with Brett at Spalon, and it’s the BEST thing Uve ever done for my hair!

My hair had been beyond damaged from overprocessing and extensions that were poorly installed. The breakage left my hair thin and brittle.

Brett really listened to my concerns. He got my hair perfectly ash blonde like I had been trying to achieve for YEARS! He added the color and then meticulously checked every foil at 5 minute increments, wiping off the color strand by strand with a towel to prevent more over processing and breakage. I felt so heard and cared for, I cried tears of joy when I left. The shampoo chair was unbelievably comfortable. I’ve always had neck discomfort when getting my hair washed, but so could have sat there all day.

Brett is very gifted, and shared his love of continuing education and mentoring that he has been provided at Spalon. He is a beautiful, caring soul and has amazing hair himself. I felt like a million dollars when I left and I’ve had my first week of no bad hair days in I can’t even remember! Thank you Brett for your expertise, energy, and attention to detail.
