Update on original post: The entryway has been fixed, and the police camera trailer is now gone. Everything there seems back to normal, and the food just as tasty.
Original Post: First the minor but possibly important details: 1. In my opinion it should be $$$ not $$. 2. They do have gluten free options. 3. There are no condiments at your table. 4. Each person gets a cloth napkin 5. If you choose a soft drink option, it is Pepsi products. 6. The entryway was a bit bizarre. The glass doors lacked all sign of glass, and you pass under some sort of curtain. On the side of the building, police cameras are parked, so apparently there has been some problems? We started with Guacamole. I would have liked just a small bit of extra salt, but fresh and quite good. Next my first choice would have been Ensalada Romana, but to my disappointment, they do not (at least at this time) make their own Caesar dressing. I chose Ensalada Andina, and was not disappointed. While the purpose of the quinoa in it was lost on me, the flavors melded well, and the avocado pistachio mixture is a thing of genius. Next the Filet De Lomo where the tenderloin was the star of the show. It was without doubt the most tender piece of beef I have had in years, and the butter on top was magnificent. The yuca was good, and it seemed that the bean puree with pico de gallo on top served to replace any catsup you might use. While I'm not sure that I would have chosen that if I were creating a menu, but it was good. Next I had Shrimp and Polenta. Everything was cooked properly and was lightly sweet mixed with the spicy umami flavors found with the in andouille. It was also quite nice. Achiote Chicken came next. It wasn't my personal favorite, but it was done correctly and had good flavors. To finish things off we had Mexican Tres Leches, Ecuadorian Coffee Flan and Vanilla Creme Brulee. They all had great flavor, though I am a bit weird about mouth textures, so the Mexican Tres Leches would not be my first choice. The Ecuadorian Coffee Flan was smooth and not at all overpowered by the coffee. Vanilla Creme Brulee on a special occasion I would be tempted to order this alone, and have no regrets... Yes, it...
Read moreThis restaurant tucked in a small shopping center in Edina is going to become a favorite. My in-laws made a reservation for 8 to celebrate my wife's birthday. We went early, and they had two servers sharing our table until other diners arrived. The guacamole was bright and fresh, just like a friend's Mexican grandmother taught him to make. I suggested to stones, I wasn't disappointed, and the family encountered a new-to-them food. These came with chimichurri and cream. The cream, unsurprisingly, was tasty, and the chimichurri was perfectly blended and seasoned with none of the taste of raw leaves that sometimes happens. Two of the four couples at the tables split their entrees, and the restaurant plated each half-serving separately. I would have said that maybe those servings were a bit generous, except that my meal of Lomo Saltado, the restaurant's signature dish of beef tips cooked with onions, bell peppers, and rich sauce, was definitely enough for two people. My delicious beef came with seasoned rice, fried yuca (one of my favorite treats), and some cold greens drizzled with balsamic vinegar. My wife and I don't usually get dessert, but it was her birthday, so the whole table shared two espresso fans, a creme brulee, and a slice of tres leches cake. I ordered the cake without the chocolate drizzle so everyone at the table could nibble on it. I didn't read carefully enough and was a bit alarmed when the slice arrived covered in toasted coconut. I like coconut, but I'm not fond of the texture of dried coconut, which tends to come along with the toasted. I needn't have worried; every shred of coconut on that slice of cake was perfectly toasted. The flan was delicious, and the creme brulee must've been good, too because I didnt get a bite. All of the food arrived at the table in order of how well it would maintain temperature as fast as two people could bring it to us from the kitchen. My water glass was never empty, and the servers were friendly and helpful through the whole meal. I will definitely...
Read moreThis restaurant is a wonderful example of what a small, family owned establishment should be! Truly a magical find! We decided to try this bistro based on a local recommendation. Upon arrival, the location seemed questionable. It is situated between a Chinese food restaurant and a Dominos pizza. There is nice outdoor seating for enjoying the nice weather. Once you enter the restaurant, you will be quickly greeted by one of the friendly staff members. The restaurant is nicely decorated in a style that signifies its Latin-American influence. Once seated, you will be offered some drinks. I would recommend the wonderful wine flight, as this was some of the nicest wines to compliment a meal that I have had in a while. We placed our order and the journey began! For an appetizer, we had the ceviche. I must say, that I didn’t expect much from a ceviche in the middle of Minnesota. I was very wrong. This was one of the best I have ever had. It has a wonderful citrus flavor from the lime juice, as well as a good amount of shrimp with diced onions and tomatoes. Served with house made tortilla chips, this is the perfect appetizer! Next, I had the wedge salad. As many as I have had over the years, this may be my absolute favorite. It is the perfect size with nice, thick pieces of bacon, tomatoes, boiled eggs, and an absolutely delicious dressing. Perfect! For the entrée, I had the seared scallops. These were amazing. Perfectly cooked with a great spice to them, these topped off the great meal. The risotto was also very good, but just a little on the soft side for me. It was so good, that we went back again the following night! We had the same thing, only I swapped the scallops for the beef filet. This was another dynamite dish with a beautiful piece of tender meat with good flavor. The yucca fries with the chimichurri topping was absolutely delicious! Overall, this is an absolute must is you are in the area. I highly recommend this! I just wish they were closer to...
