Let me explain something before I write this. I am not a critic. I am someone who worked in a restaurant as a sus chef for a while. Now, I grew up in jersey, and I grew up eating in this restaurant. However, for six years I lived in California, but the one thing I missed the most was east coast diners. I do not drink anymore, but I assure you I did love diners after a long night of drinking. I will always love this place especially. This being said, their menu is far too big and diverse for them. You expect those poor cooks to just whip up one of the hundred items on the menu and not expect them to lose their minds? The only restaurant that can have a huge diverse menu like edison diner is Cheesecake Factory. Why? Because they’ve perfected almost every dish. And maybe this sounds awful but I don’t mean for it to be, east coast diners need to stick with diner foods. Sandwiches, burgers, wraps, breakfast. It’s just what they’re good at. It’s why I love them. Tonight I made the mistake of ordering shrimp scampi, I don’t know why, I just felt like it. What I received was certainly not shrimp scampi. Was it good? Yeah, sure, I mean the shrimp was a little under seasoned, I did not taste garlic, the sauce it came in was bizarre, I couldn’t even tell you what it was. Did I still eat it? Hell yeah I did. I ordered it. I’m not one to send food back. But if you’re expecting a good pasta dish, I recommend just going to an ITALIAN restaurant, where they SPECIALIZE in it. This aside, I thoroughly enjoyed my server, Sergio. A very polite server, not pushy, I’m sure he could pick up on my introversion very quickly because he was not overly talkative, just doing his job and being kind about it. Hell, he even talked me into dessert, which originally I wasn’t expecting to order. The crème brulee was amazing, the cappuccino- probably the best I’ve ever had. Like I said, I don’t drink anymore, so there’s not much for me to do most nights as someone who does not like socializing besides the bar. But I’ve fallen in love with nostalgia and will absolutely come back regularly. Good atmosphere, great staff, spectacular cheesesteaks (let me tell you, I am constantly craving these cheesesteaks,) and overall a phenomenal experience. I hope to have Sergio as my regular server, if God willing, as I am a person of...
Read moreOn April 21, 2025 at 6pm, I went with a friend to the Edison Diner in Edison, N.J. Conveniently located off Route 1, the diner has spacious free parking and is perfect for driving. The two of us ordered entrees and drinks for a total cost of about $35, which was reasonably priced. It was during the dinner rush when we arrived, but we only waited 5 minutes before being shown to our window seats. The interior of the restaurant maintains the classic stainless steel look of the Kullman style, and the interior has been refurbished to be clean, bright and vintage with a modern twist. The waiters were very welcoming, offering to introduce us to the specialties and asking us carefully about our dietary preferences. I chose the pancake, which they recommended, and the freshness of the ingredients complemented the drinks with a refreshing flavor. My friend, on the other hand, ordered the chicken sandwich, which was similarly generous in portion size. It's also worth noting that a gluten-free bread option is available, which is very thoughtful. The restaurant also has Trivia Night on Wednesdays, a lively atmosphere that makes it a great place to meet up with friends, and Edison Diner is a prime example of a “Diner Reimagined” restaurant that underwent a complete renovation in the 2000s, retaining the charm of a traditional American diner while enhancing the overall comfort level. The overall dining experience was very pleasant. The overall dining experience was very pleasant, from the service to the food. Especially their freshly squeezed orange juice, which has a natural taste, is a pleasant surprise on top of the meal. This place is not only suitable for family dinners, but also for small gatherings of friends, making it one of Edison's local classic restaurants that can't be missed. I'd like to try more of their goodies next time, and I've heard the omelette and steak are very...
Read moreI came in late to The Edison Diner , after a Mannyhatty trip. We had about an hour left. It was dimly lit , probably 6-7 tables filled and the esthetic is very well taken care of and “ kitschy” . The host first thing let us know that the diner was closing soon .. thank you sir yes. 👏
The tables were adorable and had awesome curated Menus as seen in my photos. The food was the best part. I ordered the deluxe cheeseburger with mayo and ketchup and it had bacon which was possibly the BEST bacon on that side of Jersey!! I don’t know how they cooked it but it tasted like how Korean pork belly tastes lol. My partner ordered the Eggs Benny and he found them to be a bit watery and I had to agree but overall we were both pleased.
The 3/5 Stars ⭐️ comes from me ordering the desserts and the insane amount of money that was and I am 99% sure the host kept a $1 which was so weird in itself , had I addressed this -it surly would’ve just invited drama I wasn’t in the mood for . AND you could just tell from his demeanor he’s “ like that “ . I didn’t say anything because his personality reeked of male toxicity. I apologize truly because the food and ambiance was darling. Service was just okay.
I don’t love places that only have male servers and as soon as I come in I am told I get have an hour left .. all “ no nos” in my book. I as usual over tipped and bought something local and was overcharged so I believe everyone involved deserves a fair assessment. The desserts were amazing btw and clearly homemade.
Were they work $19 ? 4 desserts . UM . It’s so hard now to say. I am being brain washed. I felt it was overpriced and no deal was weird 5 for $20. Something to make me think at minimum I wasn’t being shaken down.
Anywho if you’re feeling like having an amazing burger. Yes yes come here. All the other stuff mentioned is just a “ this...
