We have been told many times now (especially since eating at White Manna) that we had to check out White Rose Hamburgers in Highland Park. This quaint diner style burger place pumps out fast, hot, delicious food 24 hours a day and we want to know why it is so busy and so many people said this is the spot. Time to eat!
The employees inside were friendly and helpful. I had a good idea of what my son and I wanted right off the bat anyway, but the man who took the order and the cook were both were nice and courteous. A quick transaction later and we decided to take our food out to one of the outdoor picnic benches. If we hadn’t though, there is a fair amount of seating inside as well all counter top bar style.
We decided to go with a couple double cheeseburgers, mozzarella sticks, and cheese fries. I have to say initially, the food looked excellent. The burgers were large, the mozz sticks had a nice fry to them so they weren’t too dark but not pale looking either, and the fries had a ton of cheese sauce on them.
Starting with the mozzarella sticks, these were very good. They were hot, crispy, and the cheese was really melty and stretched for days. The only thing that could have possibly rounded these out better was a solid marinara for dipping…and that’s exactly what we got. The sauce had a ton of depth and just a really nice sweet to savory ratio. Paired perfectly with the Mozzarella sticks.
The cheese fries were also excellent. The fries were nice and crispy even under the weight of the hefty amount of cheese sauce on them. They definitely stood up to the cheese and the potato flavor was still totally prevalent. My biggest issue with these…was we didn’t have more.
For the burgers I got mine as it comes standard (pickles, fried onions, ketchup) and my son got his as plain cheeseburgers. These patties were flattened out to be wide, but they were in no way lacking in beef. The double burger was more than sufficient to fill anyone’s appetite. I love the flavors of the onions, ketchup, and pickles but I’m sure this was tasty as a plain cheeseburger as well. The meat itself tasted almost similar to white castle but these burgers were far superior in quality. Also they had a nice Jersey Kaiser roll as the bun which is something I’ve loved since my youth.
All in all a great meal at a really solid price. I’d stop back in here any day of the week. Clear cut, White Rose Hamburgers – Didn’t Suck!

Read moreToday, I had the pleasure of visiting this cozy little diner located on the corner of Woodbridge Ave and Karsey Street in Highland Park, NJ. I went around 2:08 AM with a friend after a long day of classes and studying— a good move for a quick bite during a slower hour for this 24-hour joint. We found a parking in there small lot out front. Although the outside of the diner has few signs to indicate it, the inside of White Rose screams 1950s vintage diner, with its bright red stools, stainless steel interior and decor dedicated to the diner culture. The interior was also very clean and bright. There’s plenty of outdoor seating for the warmer weather too. The compact layout allows you to fully experience your meal through the sounds and smells coming from the grill across the front counter. You simply cannot beat the low prices here— a combo ranges from just $12-$14!
We only waited a few minutes before settling on burgers, a side and a soda. I got a regular bacon burger with a side of onion rings, while my friend ordered their Cali Burger (shredded lettuce, tomato, diced onion, and mayo) with cheese. All of their burgers seemed to be cooked with diced onion, which are deliciously embedded in the burger patty. My favorite part was that each burger came with a side of pickle chips, which is arguably the best form to receive pickles in. I was surprised that our food was hot and ready within 5 minutes of ordering.
There was a small miscommunication that ended up with us paying for another burger, but it worked out in the end when I realized a bacon burger only comes with bacon and diced onions, so I just placed my bacon on a Cali Burger and my friend took the extra patty. The burger was fresh, savory and the minor mistake on my part only meant more pickles for me! I had my heart set on ordering one of their milkshakes because the man ahead of us said they were “the best around”, but sadly I was too full by the end of my meal to order anything else. I’ll definitely come back sometime soon for a classic combo value meal and a...
Read moreCame here for brunch this past Saturday. Wow. Biggest brunch menu ever! I think anyone and everyone could find something they like here. Plenty of seating, plenty of light, not too loud, especially considering how many people are there.
Service was slightly better than mediocre. Our waitress was nice enough, but also slightly sassy, and either forgetful or not as attentive as I'm used to.
Amaretto Latte - really tasty with a good amount of frothy steamed milk. The flavor was incredibly light though, so for having to pay extra, I would've liked to taste it more.. but I guess it was only 50 cents.. Mozzarella Sticks - Eh. Nice and crispy for sure, and was NOT oily at all. But the cheese. Was this really mozzarella? It seemed like it was melted down and mixed with ricotta or something. It wasn't very stretchy/melty how it should be, but rather mushy. Wasn't a huge fan of these because of that. Dawn Breaker - I really really liked this dish. I was craving something with eggs. Not quite an omelet, and not a bake, but everything is nicely incorporated. The bacon and scallions ^-^ I ordered a white english muffin to go with, but they gave me a cinnamon english muffin instead. Not that it was bad, but it's not what I ordered. I also got cheese grits on the side. Not the absolute best grits that I've had, BUT I can very very much appreciate that they kept it simple and the consistency was wonderful. I HATE grits that are so thick that it gels together. This was soupy enough, but not runny. Great addition to my meal!
Definitely worth a visit, and perhaps a revisit; especially since there is SO...
