We had a late-night dinner at Mr. Shawarma in El Cajon around 11pm as a group of six. I originally ordered the chicken chipotle shawarma, while my friends got the Habibi burger and a lamb dish. After some time, I was informed they were out of chicken, so I switched to the fish tacos and was refunded the difference. While the other meals arrived after a bit of a wait, my tacos were significantly delayed. By 12:10am, my friends were nearly finished eating, and I still hadn’t been served. I went up to the counter to check and saw that my tacos had been packed in a takeout box, even though we were dining in.

A new person at the counter—who seemed like a manager—noticed the messy plating when they moved the food to a tray. I expressed my concern, and to my surprise, he agreed, saying, “You’re right, I don’t like this either.” He immediately trashed the plate and told me, “You wanted the chicken shawarma, right? Give me five minutes—I’ll make you a fresh one.”

He made me two fresh chicken shawarmas, and honestly, they were some of the best I’ve ever had. He even offered a free drink and apologized sincerely for the earlier mix-up. I offered to pay for the difference, but he insisted it was on the house.
