All my reviews are based solely on the food flavor experience. However, Chicos Tacos is unique among all my reviews because the place holds a special place in my childhood memories. Therefore, I have a bias that definitely influences my experience.
My grandpa would bring me and my brother to Chicos throughout our childhood and they were the happiest times spent with him. I remember us chanting "Chicos, Chicos, Chicos!" and we would jump into his truck and we would be off to get those tacos. On my most recent visit to El Paso, we were preparing to celebrate my grandpa's 90th birthday! So that first day I was back in town, I asked if he wanted to go to Chicos and so we did. Of course I ordered a ton so I could experience it fully, i.e. tacos, french fries, sodas, and of course hotdogs.
Now for my honest review....Chicos is not the same as it was 15 years ago when I moved away. I heard similar comments from family who still live in El Paso. I know the cheese supplier changed and the hotdogs are not the same as they once were. I remember them being those large red ones that packed alot of flavor. Sadly, the food flavors were not the same. However, they were not bad.....just not the same. I still ate at least 20 tacos, two items of fries, and an entire hotdog. I will still visit Chicos and have a grand ol time next time I am in town. But for new visitors, you will hear Chicos is the greatest, but it really isn't. It is good food that brings back all the childhood memories of all El Paso residents. It's that happy memory we all have that makes the food seem better than it really is. But that is totally ok. Memories and food go together to create the full experience.
So thank you Chicos for being a part of my childhood and I will always pay you a visit when I am in town. Just quick suggestion....give us more salsa with our...

For years I've heard family, friends, and El Pasoans speak highly of Chicos tacos but never been until today and wished I hadn't. For me, it fell way short of any high praise that was instilled in the name from the die hard fans. I'm sorry El Paso but I really don't know how it became so famed over. When I pulled up to the restaurant on Dyer, the line was unbelievably long. I assumed it was due to COVID19 policies of letting one person at a time. Boy was I wrong! People just kept coming... I ordered the famous hotdog and the single order taquitos. It was all given separately in containers, which not a big deal to me. Once I got to the hotel room I did the whole pour the salsa and cheese onto the taquitos and even used the rest to dip the taquito with all the cheese. I'm sorry nothing helped and honestly felt it tasted mediocre at best. I'm not one to bash but I don't understand the whole craze. Not much flavor and lacked seasoning. It seemed Iike it was a pre-packaged frozen taquito/ flauta. Now onto the cut up hotdog that was served on a burger bun. Burned, Skinny anorexic hotdogs cut in half and served on top of what seemed to me like a Mashup of hormel chili with added beans. Bland and lack of salt! I dig the ingenuity but I still don't get it and pass it to being an El Paso thing. Well for me, I'll Paso on this every time and keep it hidden purposely to the the rest of the state and the world. Anyone reading this TAKE A HARD PASS ON CHICOS! Go elsewhere and enjoy El Paso without it leaving a bad taste...
Read moreThis El Paso Icon use to be the place to go. But it sucks now and has for awhile. The staff is rude, they donât answer the phone, and even though they close at 11pm they tell you at 10pm only take out or they turn you away. However not all locations are like this, only the one on Dyer. The one on Alameda is great and they treat you great! But every time you visit the Dyer location they act like theyâre doing you a favor. They hate long orders, the quality has dropped, but the prices have gone up, they yell out the order numbers like theyâre mad at you, and they're rude on the phone if they do happen to answer. Also when they get busy they take the phone off the hook and you canât order. Also they donât offer any Uber Eats services, itâs cash only, and theyâre just fussy. The location on Dyer has also gotten dirty, and donât you dare use the bathrooms theyâre disgusting! Like I said everything sucks but the prices keep going up, not to mention the $3.00 charge to use their ATM. The security here sucks too, theyâre rude, they turn you way, and theyâre always on their cell phones providing no protection for anyone or anything. Also their back parking lot is dark and security doesnât roam the property, Honestly itâs like they hate making money and their customers. Save your time, money, energy and avoid the Dyer location. Definitely visit the Alameda location theyâre kind, friendly, they answer the phone, also the restrooms at the Alameda location are clean. Big thumbs down for the...
