Angel Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Elgin

I don't know what has changed in the year and a half since we moved here, but the quality of the food and delivery has gone down since summer of 2015. I feel like this business has over-extended itself without increasing the number of employees and the quality is suffering. The food is hit or miss but usually pretty good. The garlic chicken is FANTASTIC (tons of chicken and a wide variety of vegetables in one of the best sauces I have ever had) and the portion size is out of control. The chicken satay is a little on the expensive end, but tastes great. On the other hand, the lo mein is -- to be quite honest -- disgusting. The noodles are overcooked and slimy and not at all what you would expect of lo mein. Our biggest complaint now is the delivery speed. Our wait time has been steadily increasing over the last six months to a year. When we walk in and order take-out, it takes about a half hour to get our meal, which is still quite a wait, but manageable. Last night we ordered for delivery (a 10-minute drive away) at 6:11, and we were told it would be an hour or an hour and ten minutes to get our meal. We were fine with that, knowing we had ordered late on a Saturday and they were probably swamped. Our meal, however, did not arrive until after 8:30 in the evening. Our kids were starving by that point and we were just about to make them a different meal so we could send them to bed. The most frustrating part is that we called in at 7:40 to check on our order and were told that the food had left and should already be be at our house. That was quite obviously a lie as it took almost another hour for it to arrive and the garlic chicken was piping hot, as if it had just been made. The delivery driver told us that he is not allowed to drive the food out until they have all the orders done that were supposed to come out to our area. Had they been honest about the possibility of delivery taking almost two and a half hours, we never would have ordered. I understand that it may seem to make business sense to them to fill a car before sending it out, but these irate customers will not be ordering again, and we were good for a 50-60$ order at least twice a month. I went there three times.

My first ever coming there was on my lunch break during school because I go to the school across from there and I love Chinese food. I had ordered chipotle and then came in and bought a drink because I didn’t want a drink from chipotle. I bought the drink and sat down to eat, to then be told by the receptionist lady that I couldn’t so I had to leave… I went again to order because I understood why she didn’t let me eat but I do feel like she could’ve left me alone.

I went and ordered pork fried rice with chicken and my order was nothing like what i asked (I received chicken and rice instead) and it didn’t taste good, it was flavorless, not to mention the fact that the lady was rude the first time I came and second time. I work in fast food so I understand the employees aren’t always going to be in the best mood but I was polite as I always am and all three times I came to eat there I received an attitude.

The next time I came in I had the same lady and I ordered just chicken and broccoli with white rice. I got the right order but it had no flavor and she only came to me once during the hour I sat to eat.

I didn’t feel welcomed coming in at all, unfortunately I will no longer be going to eat there. I know I sound crazy the fact that I came in THREE times but I like to give people and just stuff in general the benefit...

Worse Dining experience of my life! I live 15 mins away & it took them 2 hours to deliver. The food was cold and nasty. Ordered @ 6pm - After an hour of waiting I called and they said that my order was on its way. 1/2 an goes by and again "It's on its way." The kid delivering Finally showed up @ 8:00 pm. When I found the COLD and NASTY food that had been delivered, I called the owner to complain. I was told that it's not her fault that it took 2 hours to get to me - they were busy - I should have known they would be busy (This being a WEDNESDAY night). I asked for either a fresh batch of take out, that I would pick up or my money back and she freaked. She started yelling, then she started off in another language (Chinese??) and finally hung up. Needless to say, I will not be ordering...
