Emily's Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Elgin

Was excited for this place based off reviews but unfortunately was let down. The atmosphere is odd. Not very welcoming and was very cold. Just some tables and booths in a way too large of space. Service was not so good. Seemed there was only two girls working the tables/checkout and they were having to deal with a lot of dine-in folks as well as walk ins doing takeout orders. We ordered the guacamole, two birria taco dinner and two steak tacos. When we received our food, we were missing one steak taco and I didn’t see consume with the birria tacos nor chips with the guac. We asked for all three of those items. As we waited for our missing items and our food was getting cold in the already cold restaurant, it was evident that we were going to be waiting for a while based off how busy the two person staff was. We decided to look at the menu and noticed that the consume doesn’t automatically come with the birria tacos, you have to order that additionally which is not typical of a birria tacos orders from other places we’ve been (that’s kind of the whole point). And we also noticed that chips were extra for the guac, again, not very typical. Fine, that’s our bad but as a waitress I would think that if these items typically come with orders at most other restaurants, you would say to someone who has never been here before “the consume doesn’t come with it, would you like to add it?” Or “the guac doesn’t come with chips, would you like to add chips?” That would be extremely helpful. Any who, eventually our missing items finally came out. The consume is tasty in flavor, i did enjoy that on my one taco. The guac was fresh and flavorful also, very well seasoned. Overall, not very impressed and more so disappointed by this joint that seems to have a lot of hype. The two waitress were very nice though, I can’t knock...

The problem is when things aren’t labeled. You do not have any idea what the spice level is. New to Illinois and Mexican food. I never think things are hot and spicy unless they have a chilli pepper beside the item in the menu. That being said. Lots of things are spicy Except the chicken loaded burrito 10.99. Most options are too hot for my precious mouth. But this chicken burrito. I can eat. Only 1/2. Portions are huge. Yeah. Leftovers for tomorrow

Atmosphere is good. Glowing paint skulls on the walls. Clean bathrooms ( only checked womans for obvious reasons. Haha). Tv hanging from the ceiling playing sports. Today. Formula 1 racing Very quiet. Full bar!!!! This little gem is tucked away in front of a smal plaza. Seats maybe 140. Plenty of parking. Easy in and out. Nice servers. They speak both Spanish and ENGLISH!!! Bonus. The servers don’t bother you too much. If you need something they come quickly Prices are good. Anything you order comes out looking nice. This is my second time coming to your restaurant left dissatisfied, first time in the morning and second time which is today trying you at night being left very disappointed.

First I want to say I love tacos! With rice and beans and what you gave me for how much you charge is unbelievable. I ordered at 10:26pm came to pick it up at 10:35pm. I Thought since nobody is in there while walking in and how high you guys are rated online that my food should be PIPING HOT FRESH! Noooooooooo it was cold 🥶 had to come home and warm it up. THEN TO FIND OUT YOU GUYS PUT OLD WILTED ONIONS AND CILANTRO ON MY TACOS! WAS THE KILLER PART REALLY LOST MY APPETITE.

One thing I can say is that from walking out of your restaurant, I could tell that the worker's in the back were having way more fun talking and laughing then making some good food.
