Southern Maid Donuts — Restaurant in Elizabeth City

We were looking forward to trying out this local donut shop. Unfortunately we were disappointed. The donuts are small and when we arrived there was not much in the case. But we were told that more would be ready in 3 1/2 minutes. So we waited. We had asked for the chocolate cake donuts, as the label said on the top left side of the case. We saw donuts that were hot and ready being put on trays so we thought we were in for a treat. The person behind the counter, reaches into the case and pulls out 2 already existing angel food donuts on the lower shelf, proceeds to put thin chocolate frosting on them and bag them. We asked if those were for us and she said yes. We looked at each other confused and tried to see why we waited for 5 minutes, asked for the cake donuts that were labeled on the top shelf (there were no donuts in that spot and this is why, we thought we were waiting for fresh donuts). The person behind the counter seemed very confused. But she is the one that told us we could wait for the fresh cake donuts. The guy that was making the donuts only explained the difference between angle food donuts and yeast donuts. Uuumm, we had asked for the ones that were labeled cake, on the top shelf........ OK so never mind. We paid for these and left. No we will not return. Too confusing, donuts are small and frosting is not that great. I am sure others like this place, but it...

Now you guy know I don't write reviews for fast food. That's what would say if this was a Dunkin donuts. Please by no means this a fast food restaurant. By no means they get donuts from a factory delivered to you from a truck. By no means do you sugary drinks made from fast food chemicals. Killing you off slowly. What you do get is fantastic old world wold donuts made with love and satisfaction of none the factory chemicals pumped into your donut. Flour, yeast, sugar, cream, of the true ingredients of a donut. If you must get bs of Dunkin donuts, please try Southern Made doughnuts first. Have with your morning joe or kathy. Today was my first time trying out Southern Maid Donuts and I'm rather ashamed of myself for not exposing myself to this awesomeness a month ago! OMG...THESE DONUTS ARE INSANELY DELICIOUS...THEY MELT IN YOUR MOUTH WITH YUMMINESS!!!! I'm quite certain this will be a routine morning stop for me and I'll just go ahead and increase my evening workouts. The young man and young lady were so very friendly as well. Nothing like southern hospitality while getting high quality product...definitely looking forward to my morning visits with...
