I’m 100% Nicaraguan, so I grew up eating the real deal when it comes to Nicaraguan food. Naturally, I was super excited when I found out there was finally a Nicaraguan restaurant near me—even if it’s 45 minutes away. With no Nicaraguan food spots in my area, I couldn’t wait to go, support the place, and enjoy a good meal. Sadly, it was a big letdown. When my husband, daughter, and I showed up on a Saturday night, the place felt empty—just a group of guys hanging out at the bar. We picked a spot in the back for some peace and quiet, which was fine, but then we realized there weren’t any menus, so we ordered what is a typical Nicaraguan dish (carne asada, gallo pinto, maduro, queso frito con su ensalada de repollo). My food came out first, and I figured my husband’s plate wouldn’t be far behind, but it ended up taking 10 whole minutes to show up. The food itself? Terrible! My carne asada was dry, flavorless, and honestly felt like it had been frozen and microwaved, it turned hard once it cooled down. The gallo pinto was just plain sad—dry and completely bland—and the cabbage slaw wasn’t any better. The fried cheese was the only thing that wasn’t horrible. My daughter asked for cacao (a traditional Nica cocoa milk drink), but instead, the waitress brought her a mango drink without even checking first if that’s what she wanted. And get this: the beers we ordered were served in paper cups! Seriously?! The service didn’t help either. The waitress was awkward and unprofessional. When she brought the bill, she just stood there hovering over my husband while he was deciding whether to pay with cash or card. It was uncomfortable and weird. I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, it was a total...
Read moreFirst time and last time. Look We weren't expecting a gourmet meal knowing we were going and where we were at. First you walk in to this restaurant and you are not at the very least greeted by anyone to lead you to a seat. As is common courtesy for staff to do so. Not expecting a gourmet meal, but at the very least being it looks like a place that would serve good home cooked style food. Nope this place failed the grade. They only accept cash, no credits cards accepted and a big sign that reads "no zelle accepted" like who even goes to a restaurant to pay with zelle. Then to top it off, the restaurant doesn't have a menu. So I suppose it's a mystery on how much you have to pay to eat a dish here, or the owner must charge you based on what they think you will pay. At the end the price wasn't bad. The food on the other hand was bad. Not sure what the locals consider decent good food, but this place I will never and I mean ever go back. Gallo pinto bland and very dry, their steak meat (res asado) was dry and chewy, I didn't even bother to try and chew that.. went home gave it to my dogs they too refused the meat. Big disappointment in thinking this restaurant would have a decent tasting home style central American food. They have alot to adjust if they intend on staying in business PS service was very...
Read moreThe minute you arrived in, the moldy basement smell hits you. That really shut me down. There should be no tables near it. No menus so you don’t know what to order or the prices of what you are ordering, food came in cold (even if the waitress delayed picking it up, it wouldn’t be that cold), no flavor (not even smelled like Nica food), coleslaw needed vinegar and salt( ours didn’t look like the pictures posted in other reviews). There were enough staff to keep the place smelling good. The fresco de cocoa tasted watered down and it wasn’t due to the ice. As we were leaving men were coming in to hang out at the bar. I believe that’s how this restaurant is staying afloat as it was empty when we came. I like how the owner responds to the reviews and feedback however it seems like she doesn’t use it to improve. I think you need to get real authentic Nicaraguan women that knows how to cook in the kitchen. So disappointed as I really wanted to support this spot. I honestly don’t...
