This place is really quite the delicious little gem and it's worth dining in so that you get the freshest, crispiest version of their offerings.
We had the Happy Platter and it really makes for a great sampling of their sauces and appetizers (their crab rangoon were so delicious, I don't even recall using a sauce for them!) The platter had a little of everything and it was all served hot and crispy; I've ordered similar items from other restaurants for delivery/pick-up and now realize that's a mistake when things are deep-fried... eat them right from the source for the best quality.
For the entrees, we had the Lime Chicken which were some of the best breaded chicken bites I've ever eaten (on par with The Village Tavern's breaded chicken tenders). They are drizzled with lime sauce and... oh my... OH... MY... I would demand someone at the table order this every time just so I can have a few bites if I order something else in the future, haha!
The other much-enjoyed entree was the Pad Thai, which remained true-to-heritage with customary ingredients and lots of flavor. I don't recall the Pad Thai tasting of tamarind, which I really am fond of and expect in this dish. Regardless, it was so fresh in terms of veggies and the peanut sauce so delicious, that I was thrilled to have leftovers for a next-day lunch. I just checked the description of their Pad Thai and it says 'egg' in the ingredients, so I'll ask for extra when I choose that entree next time (my Pad Thai entrees can never have enough egg, lol...)
Dessert was some lightly sweetened and very sticky rice with fresh mango slices on top. This was very simple and way too good! I would love more fruit to be served at other restaurants, so Happy Elephant did right with this treat.
Service was great too; we had excellent advice from one of the owners upon arrival (Ning is so nice!) and our server was really on-point with knowing what we needed and providing it almost with premonition-level expertise, lol.
Just an awesome dinner and everything and everyone paired...
Read moreI used to go here all the time when I worked in the area. I have since relocated 30 mins away so I don't get here as much as I used to, but I ALWAYS stop by when I am in the area. They are currently take out only. This restaurant is a true family run small business. Husband usually takes the order while his wife, the real star, works her magic in the kitchen. The service is top notch. They are very patient if you aren't sure what you want and are willing to answer questions and make suggestions with courtesy. The food is amazing. Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines. I have eaten at many of the Thai restaurants in the NW suburbs and this is a the top of my best of list. The flavors are really packed in to each dish. If you are worried about amount of spice or flavor in a dish let them know your concern and they will do their best to acquiesce your request. The best secret in here is the dessert. All the dessert is made in house and they are amazing! Happy Elephant is my favorite because the food tastes like something they would serve to guests in their home. And that is how you are treated when you walk through the door. They really make an effort to make a connection with their customers. It is refreshing to see the effort now a days. If you are looking for a delicious convenient Thai cuisine or home made dessert stop in to Happy Elephant. You will not be...
Read moreI am highly disappointed, I came in to grab lunch and take it to work. It was my first time ever coming into this restaurant, I ordered pad Thai with chicken and I have never had complaints no matter where I have went. The pad Thai was beyond dry, barely any chicken, and no flavor. I brought it back after work about 3-4 hours later and let them know that it wasn’t good and I wanted to return it. The owner didn’t show one ounce of concern with the fact that I sat at work and didn’t eat anything because the pad Thai they made was terrible! Customer service is key and I will let the rest of my office at work know the lack of good quality service that I received when coming back in after work. They didn’t try to make it better for me, or even offer me something for the Inconvience. A simple “I apologize or let’s try to fix this would have been enough for me.” After I got my receipt for the refund, they didn’t even say anything to me, so I just stood there shocked and walked out. I will never bring business to this establishment again and I hope they learn how to treat and greet...
