Well, Mercado de San Miguel was one of those wonderful, surprise finds on our trip! If you haven't been to either of these places I apologize in advance, but if you can imagine the Boqueria Market in Barcelona combined with the Oxbow Market in Napa Valley, then you'll understand this place.
Worst mistake ever, finding this place right after we had just eaten, so we really didn't get to take full advantage and instead mostly wandered around killing time and seeing all that they had to offer.
Probably a bit touristy, but still, I HIGHLY recommend coming here.
Want fresh produce? Yep, here... Want to sip on wine while browsing? Yep, here... Want to sip on fruit juice while browsing? Yep, here... Want to try an oyster, caviar, sandwich, ice cream, coffee with M&Ms in it? Yep, here...
And trust me, coffee with M&Ms was one of the less surprising things I saw. They literally had everything, things any and all foodie are just dying to try, but sadly at 22 euros a pop I couldn't muster up the funds to try sea barnacles.
A foodie heaven, most of the tapas options (yes they have your regular old anchovies on toast, olives on sticks etc too) were about 1 euro each, and wine was 3 euro a glass, so please, do yourself a favor and come here. Come hungry. Spend your lunch time here browsing...
Read moreI tried this place for the first time a few days ago, based on the reviews here. I was not lead astray. The food was great, service was super friendly and welcoming, and the boba/bubble tea was superb.
For food I had the sesame chicken and pad Thai chicken. Both were great. Sesame chicken was amazing -- nice and crispy with a sweet red sauce added, and the chicken was good with no gross bits. The pad Thai was also pretty good. Fairly standard, nothing extraordinary, but it hit the spot.
If you like boba/bubble tea, this place is fairly good for that as well. If you want something better you're going to have to visit Chicago or Detroit. But for Elkhart, this is the best I've found. I had the honeydew and it was delicious. The tapioca "pearls" were perfect -- no hard bits, not slimy, just perfect and chewy, kinda like fruit snack gummies. It's made like a smoothie with ice, so it's not as creamy as other places, but in hot weather that's just fine.
Finally, a special thank-you for their trustworthiness and honesty. I left my credit card there after paying for my meal, because I had a dumb moment. They kept it safe for me until I noticed it was missing a couple days later. Sure enough, they had it. I picked it up, along with another order of sesame chicken and lychee...

I presume it was the owner I dealt with. He was requiring customers to give him their debit cards "pin" in order to get their lunch. When I told him I would not give him my pin number he said fine and took my order and put it in the back room. The other person told him "can't she just enter her pin herself? He said no. He went on to try to use the analogy of buying online. Lol I told the man I never tell someone my pin even for online purchases. Either way I was fine and let him know I would be reporting this practice. His response was I've been here 20 years and nothing has happened as a result of complaints yet. If zero stars was an option he'd get that. On to Better Business...
