I was very disappointed in this restaurant. After searching reviews to several restaurants in Elkin I decided on Cowboy cause I wanted a steak, since I hadn't had one in awhile. I was so excited to see they had T-bone steak on the menu and ordered one cooked medium; as well as a salad, baked potato, and roll. My husband and I enjoyed the appetizer of fried onion rings, mozzarella sticks, mushrooms and chicken was great as well as my salad which was fresh with good tasting ranch dressing; however, my steak was horrible. It was tuff and over cooked around the edges and tasted spoiled. I tried tasting slices of meat near the bone which was more medium rare cooked but it too still tasted odd. The potato was over cooked and dry and the butter also tasted sour (the butter looked like it had melted and re-hardened in the little container it came in). The roll too was stale and hard on the bottom so I didn't eat anymore more of it. I couldn't even eat the steak after tasting a few bites of it so I left it on my plate; but ate most of everything else. My husband enjoyed his meal of baby back ribs. The people were nice, the service was good and the place looked clean. Other people at the campground where I stayed said they enjoyed their meals there - they did not have...
Read moreThe food and service make up for the atmosphere. Although the atmosphere isnt horrible it could definitely use some working on. Could do tons with that name as far as decor. We found this place by chance online when traveling through and the campground manager of the campground we were staying at said it was a pretty good place so we decided to try it and boy am I glad we did!! If we are ever back in that area we will definitely be back!! Hushpuppies are awesome!! Definitely getcha some!! All the food was fabulous!! Our watriess was super friendly and we didnt want for anything yet didnt feel overly waited on (if that makes since). I got beef tenderloin tips, my husband got the cowboy burgar, and my son got the NY strip. Everything was perfect! I got a sweet potato and house salad, they both got fries. Again delicious. I had mushrooms on my beef tips and they we big and a lot of them. We all left with super full tummys and smiles on our faces!! And a couple doggie bags!! Dont miss out on this place!! Well worth ur money!! Speaking of money...extremely well priced for everything we ordered also! Appetizers, a couple of beers, 2 steak dinners, and a burgar meal...with tip and we were right around the $100 mark. And I tipped 25% because yes, our waitress...
Read moreWe have visited the Cowboy several times and the first few times it was really good, staff was nice, cozy, etc . A few months ago we tried the "special" smoked chicken and it was very dry. Called it a fluke then it was dry again another time so we quit ordering it. Well today we had a long afternoon hiking at Stone Mountain and decided to Splurge at the Cowboy because they had Prime Rib. Well, what a bad surprise. It looked okay but when we went to cut into it was VERY HARD. There is no way the chef could of not known it was really dried out. We were so hungry and didnt want to wait for something else and decided to try and eat the edges that had a little fat next to it. Was still very tough that way. Never had prime rib this dry before. So then when we went to checkout the usual older lady was there and I very politely said the prime rib was really dry and bad. She did not apologize, did not try to adjust the bill, coupon for next time, nothing. Simple said ill let "them know." WOW. That did not help our experience at all, actually made it worse. Not only bad food but bad customer service now. We will not be giving them another chance anytime soon. I would suggest staying away...
