Our new favoriteâauthentic, welcoming, and absolutely unforgettable.
My family including the five kids (ages 18 to 30), had just returned from a family vacation in the Dominican Republic. We were tired, hungry, and looking for something simple on the way home. What we found at Zaman Grill and Shawarma was more than just a mealâit was one of the best food experiences weâve had in a long time.
Years ago, we used to love Maxâs Shawarma CafĂŠ in Kensington. It was a family favoriteâfreshly made food, full of flavor, and always consistent. Sadly, itâs no longer around, and weâve missed it ever since. Walking into Zaman instantly brought that feeling back. In fact, it may have raised the bar even higher.
From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with warmth and generosity. The gentleman behind the counter offered us samplesâincluding what I believe he called a Turkish saladâand every single bite had us leaning in, smiling, and nodding. You could immediately tell this was a place run with passion and pride.
This wasnât just good shawarmaâit was across-the-board incredible. The hummus was smooth and rich, the meats were tender and perfectly seasoned, and the sidesâfrom fries to saladsâwere crisp, vibrant, and full of flavor. The garlic sauce alone could be its own reason to come back.
But beyond the food, itâs the people who make Zaman special. You donât just eat hereâyou feel welcomed, appreciated, and part of something authentic. Itâs a Palestinian restaurant, and the experience reflects that cultural warmth, generosity, and deep connection to food and hospitality.
For our family, Zaman is now our go-to. It filled a spot weâve missed for years, and somehow made it even better. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit.
Thank you, Zaman teamâyouâve got something truly special, and weâre so glad we found you.

Read moreI just had the pleasure of dining at this newly opened Palestinian restaurant in Elkridge, Maryland, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. I wanted to spread the word!
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and a warm welcome from the owner himself and the devout employees. They showed us to our table, offered us refreshing drinks, and proceeded to explain the menu with great enthusiasm and recommendations.
We opted for the shawarma platters with fries, which were cooked to perfection. The meat was tender and juicy, the fries were crispy and flavorful, and the pita bread was soft and fresh. But the real star of the show was the hummus - rich, creamy, and infused with just the right amount of garnish and olive oil. We devoured every last drop!
What truly set this restaurant apart, however, was the owner's generosity and hospitality. He kept bringing us out plate after plate of complimentary dips, drinks, and even dessert! We were treated like family, not just customers. He took the time to chat with us about his vision for the business and welcomed us back anytime.
The atmosphere was cozy and intimate, with a newly built outdoor space that will be great for warmer weather dining.
In short, this restaurant is a must-try for anyone looking for authentic Middle Eastern cuisine in the DMV. The food is delicious, the service is top-notch, and the owner's hospitality is unmatched. We can't wait to go back and try more of their menu items! Please support this small business and...
Read moreMy first visit at about the 4 week point since Zaman's opening. The proprietor is very engaging, involved, and generous. I am drawn to Mediterranean places first based on what the Falafels look like. I was assured that theirs were top notch and I was not disappointed. The Falafels as an appetizer don't come with anything to dip in, but we ordered their amazing Hummus, which is covered in fresh parsley and swimming in a liquid that I assume is Tahini. So don't hesitate to order them..
On to other offerings: I want to like eggplant for it's nutritional value but when it tastes like the squash it really is, I'm turned off. The Owner offered me a taste of their Baba Ghanoush, largely made of eggplant, and it was so fresh tasting and non-squashy I added that to our meal.
He also offered a spicy dish that they call Turkish salad. Not so hot as to cause my sinuses to discharge, but definitely interesting. Ordered that as well and shared at home with friends who also gave the offerings two thumbs up!
It's a very modest place where you can eat there and they are preparing a covered patio that will be nice after winter. Give them a try! You won't be...
