Crystal's Cakery — Restaurant in Ellwood City

Cake tasted fine but my customer service with Crystal was sub-par. I ordered my wedding cake from her bakery about two months in advance, just a simple two tier naked cake. Communication was via email and it was fine until it wasn't. My friend was going to pick up the cake on my wedding day, but she asked if we would like to pick it up the day before and I said yes (this conversation took place the week before the wedding). I told her my friend would be there in the morning the day before to pick up the cake. My friend drove over to the bakery and Crystal wasn't there: she put a sign on the door saying she would be back at 2pm. She didn't notify me and knew my friend would be there to pick up my wedding cake that morning. I emailed her as soon as my friend called me and told me the situation (she was out of the office and not answering her phone). Crystal emailed me back saying she had me down for pick up the following day; I have emails stating we agreed to pick it up the day before the wedding. She asked us to pick the cake up after 2pm even though we told her my bachelorette party began at 2pm and we live an hour away. She proceeded to pressure us into picking the cake up at 7 or 8pm the night of my bachelorette party! What?! Who does that? My friend ended up picking the cake up on my wedding day and Crystal set the cake out in front of my friend and walked away before my friend could even touch the cake. If you make a mistake on scheduling, make it right and don't put additional pressure on anyone, let alone a bride the day before...

The cake served its purpose for our wedding on 9/27, it was cute, but not exactly what we wanted. We were a bit disappointed in the execution of the cake, because it did not have specific details we spoke to crystal about months before our wedding (we wanted a pearlescent sparkle as well as pearl candies which was included in the original form we filled out and inspo photos). The icing on the cake could have been a lot smoother on top and was bucking on the edges (see photo). Additionally, we ordered the cake in early March for pickup on a specific date and time in September. The cake was not ready when we arrived to pick it up, and we had to wait around 30 minutes for it to be finished up. Crystal wasn’t even the one there as she was out on a delivery the day of pickup, which we didn’t quite understand if you had a wedding cake scheduled for pickup. The door was locked when we arrived but luckily another worker was there to help or we would have been without a cake. Not the best time management. We wanted to support local but will be going elsewhere in the future for our bakery needs. You get what you pay for as this cake was only $60. We would have gladly paid a higher price for better quality / the details we were...
