Fantastic food, friendly service, great setting. A tiny bit on the pricey side but that's bound to happen when you're trying to make great food with fresh ingredients.
I've seen a couple comments complaining that this "isn't real Mexican food" and that "The Horchata is so sweet it's going to make you diabetic." In response to the first, I'd like to say — as someone FROM MEXICO WHO WAS RAISED THERE MOST OF HIS LIFE — that TDS has amongst most consistent Al Pastor I've ever had in the US. Not to mention that it's legit Al Pastor, not that weird adobo sauce people put on chicken and call it Al Pastor. That alone invalidates whatever ridiculous complaint those people who like to think themselves connoisseurs despite being complete posers might have to say. But also, their tacos in general are great, their salsas are fantastic (I like to suffer, but there's some non-spicy options as well) and their pupusas are solid (at least to this Non-Salvadorian Latino) Also, seriously? "The Horchata is so sweet it's going to make you diabetic"? Like yeah no crap, así se debe de preparar la horchata no se pasen de listitos con sus ridiculezes autocongratulatorios creyendose inteligentes.
Anyway, rant against the self-important weirdoes who like to pretend they're critics aside, 100% give this place a shot at least once. Get their Al Pastor. Last time I had Al Pastor this good I had to risk my life in Little...
Read moreThis is a very popular food truck in Emporia that has more or less turned into a stationery restaurant. There is no inside seating but there are covered picnic tables. It was hot out and the misters were nice.
We were there after dinner time and there didn't appear to be many people there so we ordered and sat down. We sat down for at least a half hour and kept seeing people walking up to the window and getting food. I guess they were phone orders or placed on the internet. I'm not sure but we sat there quite a while. When our food came out, the owner (?) was quite apologetic. He gave my wife and I each a free horchota (cold pink milk drink) that was really good. The little extra made the wait worthwhile.
The food is not traditional Mexican. It's specialized from another South or Central American country. It looked really good but I'm not a huge fan of Hispanic food. My wife seemed to enjoy her food. Based on how popular the place is, it must be good.
I'd say it's worth a try but see if you can figure out how to order your food online or by phone. The menu is definitely on...
Read moreThis isn't real authentic Mexican food, so if that's what you're looking for, look elsewhere. This is Americanized Mexican food with a white trash twist, which is the majority of the populace of emporia. So I won't blame the daily station for catering to the locals tastes. I ordered a torta. To my dismay, it had awful whole canned beans instead of homemade refried beans and there was about 2 pounds of the cheapest melted mozzarella as the bottom layer of the torta. I'm not exaggerating either. It was an atrocity and inedible. That is not how you make a torta. They also put so much sugar in the horchata drink that you will go into an instant diabetic coma. Undrinkable. Mis Antojitos was so much better but they're hardly...
