We came here because we found a groupon for Odin's Keep and thought it would be something new and fun to do. We reserved their back room for a joint adult birthday party and rolled in with a party of 18! Back Room please?!
We couldn't have been more happy with our decision. The place is great! The decor is spot on and puts you right in the mood to sling some axes. When you walk in there are kiosks set up to sign the obligatory waiver of liability. There are four of them with options for parents to sign themselves and their minor children up at the same time, so it goes pretty quickly. Then you walk it and it opens up into this cavernous area, with throwing pits all along one wall, a little bar with a great variety of beer and non alcoholic options, and then the other side has a few games for the non-throwing members of your party, or those not old enough (minimum age of 10).
At the far end is an opening to the "Back Room", in this room is 3 more pits reserved for larger parties. This was our destination. We were welcomed in and were able to set up our foodstuffs. Another great things is, you can bring in your own food!!! Absolutely no outside beverages though. So once all of our party got signed in and settled we met our "pit masters"; Volstag and Mini Muscles. These of course aren't their real names, but their Axe Throwing Boss names. They then provided nametags and markers for everyone to come up with their own nicknames! The only rule... Can't be your real name! It was fun coming up with something.
Next we got our safety and axe throwing lessons. This was a painless and necessary 10 minute lesson on how to keep ourselves and everyone else safe, and how things would be scored. We were then separated into groups and assigned a pit (we had 2). This was when we got our first experience at hurling an axe! It was MUCH funner than I anticipated. They let you throw a few times and give you pointers on how to throw, what issues you may be having and how to correct them.
This is where the real fun started. We started our first game. Which was just for points, but with rules kind of like cornhole, where if you go over 21, you reset to 11. This is when I also realized there was an electronic jukebox on the wall. What goes better with some axe throwing than some Immigrant Song?! We kept the music jamming our whole time! It was also nice, that the back room has it's own jukebox and speakers that are separate from the main room!!
By the time we were done we had played 4 or 5 different games, and we were all having a blast; old and young alike. If you're doubting this because you think your younger companions (10+) won't be able to participate or have fun, you would be mistaken!! Two of our best throwers were the youngest two in the party!!!
In conclusion, we have already booked our next event at Odin's Keep, and plan to return many more times!
Also, Jesse (Owner/Manager?) was great and very personable and makes sure you have a...
Read moreI was contemplating on this review….and after much thought and time I realized that my reviews are the most honest. It took me weeks from my Friday night incident to come back and write this review. If you’re a review reader like I am you will thank me later. I came back for the second time on May 31st , on a Friday and let me tell you my experience was horrible ! If the guy instructor named Dylan is not there prepare to have the worst experience. I came back for the second time excited…. my first experience was a great time. Check picture for first review from first experience! When I came back for the second time and had the girl as an instructor my experience was horrible. The lack of patience/knowledge she had was so annoying and frustrating for both parties! I was so irritated from her instructing lessons that I had to up and leave my whole reservations. First thing first , she is not helpful at all. The lessons she gave compared to Dylan was completely a different experience! Dylan had more patience when it came to showing us on how to throw an axe. With this type of adventure you need to have an instructor who’s willing to help you, guide you, and be patient with you. My own personal experience was not great with the lady who was with us that night! The aggravation from the both of us had shown that night. She was not a good instructor. Dylan would show you form, posture, and technique. He had the patience of an angel and would teach you without no hesitation until you got it right. He would watch/observe you, tell you what your doing wrong and correct/show you the right way in a very pleasant/knowledgable way. The difference between the two instructor was that the gentlemen was invested. He was invested to teach you on how to throw the axes so we could honestly enjoy our time slot. I didn’t spend 2-$300 worth of money to feel like I’m wasting no instructors time when I done spent a total of $700 + ! 😡😡 The food was also nasty ! Talk about lunchables 👎🏼, pizza was gross! Had a hungry group and food was not it. Please eat before attending reservations. I don’t think I would ever be back here as there are many other axe throwing places to choose from. And if I do reconsider coming back I’m only coming if Dylan is there! He is worth the wait and he will make your axe throwing experience worthwhile, trust me, take notes, and don’t loose 2-$300 worth of money down the drain. I literally walked out of my reservation because the chick was just horrible. Horrible personality and horrible as an instructor. I guess not everyone is meant to train/teach/instruct and she is definitely not one one them. So screw you lady for messing up our second gathering 🖕🏼. Couldn’t even enjoy an event for my brothers college graduation!...
Read moreWent early on a Saturday (4:15 reservation) because it was for a birthday and we had dinner resevations later, the place is large but pretty empty. I assume that they pick up later in the evening because they place is cool and there's a lot to do besides throw axes. There are at least 6+ rows for cornhole, pool tables, seating around, and arcade games.
Our host Grave was great, it's especially nice to have someone give you pointers and tips and keep track of the scoring and games (especially if you and you others are competitive). They have you pick funny name tags when you first get there which just adds to the experience.
They have pizza there but we didn't order as we had plans later. The bar was small but their beer list was extensive, if you can't find anything there then that's on you. Lol The only thing I didn't love was at the bar there was no pricing that I could see and only the electronic menu above. Even though it was quiet in there and only 1 person before me in line it took almost 5 minutes to get my beer, not really a complaint but when people are waiting on you to get back to throw.. well you know. Guess I woukd say buy your drinks ahead! But a beer and a Gatorade was about $14 bucks so I'd say average.
Throwing was fun and the competition really gets brought out! We were both laughing and sweating as it's a workout for sure! Great time so glad we ventured out and tried something new. Would love to go back and would...
