A Transatlantic Triumph nestled in the quaint village of Enon, Ohio, The Last Queen is a British gastropub that feels like a portal to a cozy corner of the UK. From the moment you spot the Union Jack and crown-adorned sign, you know youâre in for an authentic experience. My recent visit, where we indulged in their fish and chips and a pint of Guinness, was nothing short of spectacular, blending British tradition with Midwestern charm. The stone archways, polished wooden floors, and a bar stocked with British brews create a warm, inviting space that feels like a proper pub youâd stumble into in the English countryside. The staffâs genuine hospitality only enhances the vibe, making you feel like a regular even on your first visit. Itâs the kind of place where you could linger for hours, swapping stories over a pint. The fish and chips were a standout. The cod was impeccably fresh, flaky, and tender, encased in a golden beer batter that was light, crispy, and never greasyâa testament to the kitchenâs skill. The hand-cut chips were the real deal: thick, perfectly fried to a crisp exterior with a fluffy interior, served with a house-made tartar sauce that added a delightful tang. Every bite was a nod to British culinary tradition, executed with precision and care. The pint of Guinness was the perfect complement. Poured with the patience it deserves, it arrived with a creamy, velvety head and that signature roasted depth that makes Guinness a pub staple. It paired beautifully with the meal, cutting through the richness of the fish while adding its own layer of comfort. Service was prompt and warm, with staff eager to help out. Recommendation: Fish and chips with a pint of Guinnessâa match made...
Read moreA breakfast Birthday Treat from my Wife đĽ°. A short drive from home, we visited the Last Queen Gastropub in Enon, Ohio. Met Adrian, the owner, very nice, talked about the Royal Mail letter box (U.S. Translation mail box) and his double decker bus around the corner. Parking has two spaces out front and an EV charger. Also a few spaces around the side/back.
Restaurant is very nice, clean and well kept. The entry way has the traditional black umbrella and a few interesting items to purchase. As you go into the dining room area you pass a well stocked bar with good selection of drinks. There is an outside dining area.
The layout is nice, tables are clean and area well kept. The table number spoons were cool, ours was Prince William but there was a James Bond one too đ.
The menus have a good selection and changes for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I ordered the Traditional English Breakfast, my wife had fruit compote pancake and my son had Nutella Pancakes. All were good. The sausage was local farm raised. I was really hoping for blood sausage but Adrian is right, it is pricey. Food was good taste and warm.
The service was timely even as they were starting to get busy as the morning went on. Our waitress was attentive and helpful. Everyone seemed happy and seemed to enjoy being there which was nice to feel and was a nice relaxed atmosphere and pleasant dining experience. Highly recommend and would enjoy coming back for a fish and chip dinner...
Read moreAte there 5:00 May 11 with a group of people that tries to eat at a different restaurant each month. Place your order at the bar, give them your table number, then the food is brought to you. You pay when your order is placed, and I didn't like the fact that at the end of the transaction it asks if you want to leave a tip when there's been no service, except self-service. (Maybe they are still short on wait staff due to covid?) We had 10 in our group and by the time the last meal came out the first people were already finished, kinda defeating the purpose of eating together. Not a fan of the ordering process. Should be a better way of keeping a group's orders closer together, as I believe we placed our orders almost one after the other. (I don't remember as it's been 20 years since I was in London, but if this is how all Pubs work, maybe the solution is to not eat in such a large group.) I was not impressed with the fish, but the chips were good. Don't know if the fish was frozen or not, but the cooking results almost seemed like it was frozen breaded and when cooked the fish shrunk inside, and it was really watery. Several of us got fish/chips and they were all the same. After boasting a "full bar with craft ales", they were out of the first two beers I chose. If I lived closer I would probably give it another chance but too far to risk another less than great meal. Our waitress was hard-working...
