First off I wanna say I’m a keep it all the way 100. The food was nasty, I kind of figured it would be because when we first pulled up, I didn’t smell any smoke from no barbecue no nothing. so once we got in, I off the top already knew I’m getting something fried because I was looking around at people’s plates and the ribs just looked dry. You know when you see good barbecue even if you just see a couple pieces of rib when they’re cut properly, but in this case, the ribs just had like an overcooked look. but in this case, the ribs just had like a overcook look, but we didn’t order any ribs we visited from Sacramento to Las Vegas and me, my son and my father-in-law we ordered fried catfish , catfish sandwich which you can’t go wrong with fried fish. my wife ordered one with brisket, baked beans and greens. I wanna say that she taste decides greens she had to send back. She said they were just nasty so she traded it for mac & cheese. She tasted the baked beans. The baked beans tasted like it was right out of the pork and bean can nothing added nothing special just pork and beans from a can. Her brisket was very, very dry and cold. I tasted a piece of her brisket. It just was cold and dry and didn’t taste good didn’t seem like it was marinated any kind of way. Dan, I told our waitress that her brisket was not good. It was cold and it just didn’t have no taste. It wasn’t tender. Wasn’t any of that she even put barbecue sauce to try to drown out or get a better taste even the barbecue sauce was very nasty. I don’t know what kind of barbecue sauce that was. It’s definitely not Texas style on any kind of level period. Then she talked to the manager he came over and my wife started to explain I had to take over and just keep it real was like man. The brisket is nasty is not tender is not seasoning is not marinated. It’s cold. It’s tough, but then the manager has the nerve to say, but everybody else ate their food and I told him well. We ordered fried catfish and then you can’t go wrong with frying fish as long as you put seasoning on it and he laughed, and then he said OK he was gonna take it off The receipt, Then the waitress came back and after I pay for it, I noticed that the receipt just had 10% which she didn’t even eat all of her food. She ate one piece of the brisket. It was three slices. She ate one slice, and I helped her eat that one slice just to get a taste so they gave us a 10% discount instead of taking the whole plate off of my receipt they act like your postage just like the food and not want your money back if something is not up till standards and especially up to a Super Bowl champions restaurant, Texas barbecue we had better barbecue at a gas station in Sacramento California. We will not be coming back to this place 10% off of something you didn’t eat instead of taking it off of the receipt is unacceptable and the food was very unacceptable. That Super Bowl champ needs to turn in his trophy for some better cooks.
I asked the waitress which one of those guys are the cooks. She said all of them are back there and they are the cooks so I was like it’s three cooks back there and you can’t even get the food right and you serving cold brisket no marination no seasoning just very tough and dry. We will not be going back. That’s all. I’m gonna say if the owner is reading this you should be refunding me all my money man...
Read moreThis was my experience, truthful and honest. I placed an online order for four 2 meat plates. Two with ribs & wings/ small mac & small yams. Two with ribs & brisket, large beans, large collard greens, large cabbage, and large yams. When I arrived the very busy and visibly stressed hostess retrieved my food, it only took a few minutes. While I was waiting, I noticed there wasn’t a space dedicated for pickup. I felt like I was hovering to close to the first dinner table where people were eating. I can just imagine how they felt, with myself and two other patrons, not even two feet behind them. This was about 3 in the afternoon, on Friday, so it was pretty busy. At first glance it appeared my order was correct. I could visibly see four food trays with four large sides. Once I got home and unpacked everything I was quite disappointed to see missing items. The wing and rib plates come with two small sides which I presumed were spooned out portions inside the food trays, but there were no small sides. When I opened the large sides I noticed the large cabbage was replaced with a second order of greens, which I simply chopped it up because maybe they just ran out of cabbage. On to the biggest issue, the taste of the food. The ribs were over cooked, and 3 out of four plates had ribs that were dried out. The ribs had minimal smoke flavor and heavy on the salt for my liking. The brisket was a bit dry and very salty. My wife and I only ate one of the three pieces the meal came with. Definitely not with the extra 9 dollars. The lemon pepper wings looked ok, but my kids ate those so I’m not reviewing the wings. On to the greens. Both large sides of greens we completely inedible due to the high salt content. I not sure they took into account how salty smoked meat is, but It was way too much. The corn muffins were more like cake than corn bread. My wife and I like a more savory cornbread, but the kids ate theirs. If you like sweet cornbread you will like it. The yams had good flavor but too heavy on the sugar for my liking. Again my kids ate theirs, so if you have the tastebuds of 16 &17 yr old you will like them. Sad to say the beans were the best part of the meal. They tasted like canned pork and beans with smoked meat flavor and bits of shredded pork (I think). I didn’t notice any onions or pieces of bell peppers, so a bit bland. My suggestion for the restaurant is to do some serious seasoning adjustments, for the masses. Having large sides and premium meats that are completely inedible, is unacceptable. Set up a tase kitchen, at the restaurant, sign some memorabilia and get some honest opinions on how the food tastes because for the price your charging ($148 for 2 adults and 2 teens half of which was inedible) there are several other, better options. I will possibly try it again because there are some food items I would like to try like the sausage, catfish, banana pudding, cabbage, potato salad...
Read moreI came with my son and wife. The food is real good but does that mean we have to be okay with bad service,no matter of fact let's start off with the bad service the food was taking too long which we've patiently waited an hour a half. I ordered 2 meats and 2 sides. The server only checked on us when food came to the table and asked how's the food when I didn't get to taste it 1st. I tasted my food and it was good. The server wasn't very attentive or offered refills on drinks or water. They had more than 5 people working the kitchen which it shouldn't be taking 1hr 1/2 to cook our food. They forgot my corn bread when my food arrived. I called the waiter to let her know that I don't have corn bread and she told me they ran out and she knew it too. That's 1st mistake she should've let me know when they ran out before I ordered my food. I can't enjoy my food without the corn bread. She comes back and tells they had more but I had to wait 25 minutes for my corn bread and she said she'll put it on a to go plate which I'm ok with it. I asked for the check and was charged a 18% gratuity tip when the menu said that it only applies to the party of 6 when there was only 3 of us only. I told the waiter I'm not tipping because of bad service forgot my corn bread, waited for 1hr 1/2 , ran out of corn bread knowing they ran out and should have said something to begin with, waited 25 minutes for corn bread to arrive, and was charged 18% of gratuity charge when it only applies to party of 6 when WE WERE A PARTY OF 3. The manager was the worst part and he only gave 10% off still with the gratuity tip. My original was $96 but it was $123.00 and only charge me $112 but service was really bad anyways AND IT WAS A PARTY OF 3 AND NOT 6 which I should really paid $86 SINCE WE PARTY OF 3. I should have slapped $100 on the table and left. The server told me 10% off and not the manager. The manager needs to start being attentive to restaurant and deal with customers and not have his staff to deal with it when I asked for the manager. Manage your staff and leader ship. The restaurant would've gotten a 5 star but I give 2 because service was really bad. Start reading your reviews because you have the same complaints about waiting time and gratuity tip when there's less than 6. At least remove 6 people policy and let us know it's automatic 18% on the menu but oh well I'm not worried about that anymore bad 1st time in and I'm not coming anyways. I'm accepting my loss. The restaurant has really good food but service is horrible. I would definitely come back because of food but the service is horrible. $100 is all you are getting from and not $1k on multiple visits. Fix your staff and if that doesn't change the restaurant won't see growth and celebrity status can only get you so far. Hattie Marie's has too much potential for it to have bad service....
