I use to come here years ago when I think maybe the father owned it ? Now it’s owned and run by someone else and it’s gone down . Before covid the food started to get noticeably worse and one time eating here there was a big fight between one of the servers and Some one in the kitchen . Then They closed for covid and have reopened but it seems they are still running on old covid seating ? Tonight my family and I drive 50 minutes to eat there . We passed two other Chinese food places to go to the happy family . We walked in and the women behind the counter said “ you picking up “ I said no it’s for dine in . She hesitated and said sorry we’re not seating anymore tables right now and then went about her busy work behind the desk . There were plenty of empty tables but even if for some reason they didn’t want to use them she could have said we’re not seating more right now but I it’s a 30 minute wait if you would like to wait . No nothing just see you , thanks for driving all this way .. that’s my last time there . I’ll make sure everyone I know hears how rude the people there are . There is ways to handle situations to show empathy and then ways to just say “ see you “ . Also maybe you should update your website to say limited seating because we only seat every other booth . Also maybe a sign on the front door if you are full ? Just some...
Read moreAfter an exhilarating autumn day spent admiring the foliage at Mountain Major, our group of eight Taiwanese friends found ourselves famished and in need of respite. Fortune smiled upon us as we discovered New Happy Family Chinese restaurant at 943 Suncook Valley Hwy S, Epsom, NH 03234.
The menu boasted an array of tempting dishes, and we weren't disappointed. The Orange Chicken ($13) was a testament to authenticity, striking the perfect balance of tangy and sweet. The Mongolian Beef ($15) was a savory delight, its tender slices of beef complemented by crisp vegetables.
A standout was the Vegetable Egg Foo Young, which transported me back to the bustling street stands of my hometown. The Chinese eggplant with garlic sauce was a masterpiece, cooked to perfection with a harmonious blend of flavors.
What impressed us most were the generous portion sizes. Each dish could easily satisfy even the heartiest appetites, making the prices incredibly reasonable. The warm ambiance and attentive service added to our overall positive experience.
New Happy Family has certainly earned a spot on our Google favorites list. Without a doubt, we'll be returning to this hidden gem whenever we find ourselves in Epsom, craving a taste of home-style Chinese...
Read moreHappy Family is probably my favorite restaurant right now and I am a bit of a "foodie". The crab rangoons are sweet and flakey with the perfect amount of filling. The pork fried rice is mild and not over-sauced or burnt at all. General Gau's chicken is spicy but not too spicy, large, and crispy outside with a soft inner. I have been coming here since I was a little kid and the manager (owner perhaps?) is incredibly kind. I got lunch today and it was affordable ($9 combo meal including tax!), fast (10 mins), and delicious. Tips to have a good experience: 1. don't go on New Year's Eve. Busy is an understatement, there is no seating on this day, and the menu is limited. 2. Don't let the rice grow cold and don't save leftovers. I have worked in microbiology and this rule applies to ALL Chinese restaurants. Bacillus cereus grows really well on fried rice and not eating it right away when it is hot and fresh can give you food poisoning. Reheating in the microwave doesn't kill bacillus very well so don't do that either. Follow those rules and you will never have a bad...
