Barger Grill & Taphouse — Restaurant in Eugene

I don't get all the reviews saying "great food". We had dinner, we figured reviews are solid and it's next to WinCo. We needed to grocery shop, so quick dinner, then shop, then home. Easy.

Food is bland. We had a burger and the fiery chicken. The fiery chicken is on the menu as a crispy chicken breast. It was a skimpy pre-formed frozen minced up chicken patty that came out of the freezer bag and into the fryer. The "fiery" Habanero-Mango sauce 100% came out of a bottle. No way that's house made. Not at all spicy, and I mean Not. At. All. Spicy. The supposed "Brioche Bun" tasted like a house brand sesame bun from WinCo next door.

The place was packed with a line to get in, so maybe I'm just picky and this is the expectation for bar food. I was not impressed.

The service was really lacking as well. I get that you're busy and probably short handed like everywhere else ....but nobody had any sense of urgency. Like no one is hustling and trying to keep up.

I was there for a hour. The sign said they have broccoli cheddar soup. So we ordered our food. 3 orders of the broccoli cheddar soup. We also ordered chicken salad, pretzel bites and burger. As we wait for our food. The waitress asks if we checked out already or need our ticket. We let her know we haven’t even got food yet. 30min go by and ask for the pretzel bites. The manager brings them eventually. Another 15min goes by and we’re told they don’t have clam chowder they are out. We are confused because we didn’t order clam chowder. Then she informs us they don’t have broccoli cheddar soup. So one of us ordered that for dinner. So we start talking about going elsewhere. The waitress tells the manager we want to leave and she says tell kitchen to stop making our food so I inform manager we never said we were leaving we were discussing leaving. The waitress just jumped to conclusions. So we did ultimately after all of that we did leave. I go there at least twice a week. So I think I won’t be returning after that. This our third time here in the last month but first time for breakfast. we are in love with the place. The atmosphere is great and welcoming to a diverse crowd. It’s a great place for conversation or celebration. The food has been top notch from Steak bites(highly recommend) to the club sandwich. Their happy hour deals can’t be beaten! Price point is very reasonable even outside of happy hour. On our visit this time we encountered our first and only thing that had room for improvement. However, as an avid cook I completely understand the difficulty behind a perfect poach on eggs. That being said the white was just a little underdone and runny. Other than that the rest of our meal was spot on and great! Gotta try the stuffed hashbrown. Our server DayGlow was so so bubbly and kind that we couldn’t help but smile and engage in her humor and banter.
