The Fat Shallot in Evanston, Illinois. First time here at the restuarant. Unique concise menu with easy solid choices. Manager Trevor tells me The Fat Shallot offers regular food truck visits at various locations in Chicago. You order and pay at the counter and the food is brought to your table. Trevor's enthusiasm is contagious and his knowledge of Fat Shallot's menu and locally sourced specialty foods is much appreciated. Connor was equally energized and clearly enjoys working here, which is a nice touch for diners. The decor is simple and clean, everything you need is readily available. There is also a little bar tucked away in the back featuring a game-room atmosphere with more seating. The turkey sandwich is served high on a pretzel roll. It's gourmet and tasty. The tuna melt had artichoke hearts which I LOVE and munster cheese standard, plus I added american......sooo good. It isn't typical tuna salad mix but simply tuna plus special aioli on the toasted rye which I enjoyed. They have some fantastic high-end stone ground mustard seed you might like to sample. You must try the whole dill pickle. It isn't mushy and limp like most places but quite crunchy with a salty twinge which rounds out each bite of your sandwich. Delicious tomato bisque soup was cream-based, savory and served HOT - the croutons had a yummy crisp buttery finish. For desert, Trevor insisted we try the caramel horchata crunch ice cream bar and it surely was creamy, decadent, rich and worth our time! Connor suggested the massive chocolate chip cookie so of course we got two for the road. And they too did not disappoint. So glad we happened upon the Fat Shallot and we look forward to seeing them again soon.

Run, don’t walk, to this new neighborhood gem! Such a wonderful addition to Central St! Went for lunch on opening day & the counter service was warm, friendly & SO FAST!! My husband & I split the Truffle BLT & the Cheeseburger plus an order of Truffle Fries (sauce on the side for dipping, rather than the smothered version). Your kids are going to love the football table, claw machine & Pac Man video games inside along with giant Connect Four & bags outside on the sun drenched patio. You are going to enjoy excellent local beers (we had Sketchbook’s Orange Door & Half Acre’s Daisy Cutter- don’t judge our midday drink, we were celebrating our anniversary!!), beautiful decor & a quiet meal with your person because your kiddos will be too busy playing games to bother you! The food was excellent- can’t wait to try other options next time. Sit on the small Central St sidewalk patio, in the front dining room, in the back bar, or on the big back patio. Can’t go wrong! Welcome to the neighborhood Fat Shallot! We’re thrilled you’re here!!

Really cool space. Dining in front, party in back with the juke box, video games and the bar! And a really nice outdoor courtyard in the back. I've had the buffalo chicken sandwich at Gilson Beach before, so I had to try it at this new location. It's perfect, great buffalo spice and little slices of celery and ranch dressing. YUM! I paired it with their delicious fries. You have to come and try this.

It feels a bit odd giving this the same rating I've given some places with Michelin stars, but calibrate expectations. This is a neighborhood restaurant/bar, and it's one I am incredibly happy to have in my neighborhood.

The sandwiches and cheese curds are great. The staff - and particularly the owner, Sarah - are incredibly nice. There's a very good midwest-centric beer collection. The (back) place feels like a slightly nicer up north bar.

I'd enjoy it more if it wasn't overrun with children, but I guess that's the tradeoff of a neighborhood place. I'm just happy to finally have somewhere I can walk to and get a beer and a good plate of nachos.

Editing to add that this place is absolutely screaming to have a proper Wisconsin Old Fashioned on the menu. Particularly the Morgenthaler...
