Mackenzie's Tunes & Tonics — Restaurant in Fairfax

We went while there was a retirement party that took up half of the restaurant which definitely affected the experience. However, none of the food is homemade (dumplings, cheesecake, fries, gumbo…). My cocktail, a pisco sour, was extremely watered down. The musician only played 5 songs before leaving- another act was set to follow some time later but our meal went so quickly we didn’t stay to see. The waiters were understandably overwhelmed and really kind but brought entrees out before we had even finished the starters (and we are typically considered fast eaters). I’m sure the atmosphere and even the cocktails would be different under different circumstances but the food gave us no reason to come back. This small restaurant in Fairfax City feature mic night and comfort food. We got the short rib sandwich, the spicy chicken sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich.

The chicken sandwich tastes was pretty good. The flavor is good and the sandwiches very large and juicy. Each of these plates come with a generous portion of french fries.

The short rib sandwich was also very large with a very big piece of short rib meats inside to justify for the price of the sandwich. The pulled pork sandwich had a unique flavor and tasted pretty good. Portions are generous here. The only complaints is both the short rib sandwich and the pulled pork sandwiches were on the salty side. It seems that the short rib was cooked for a long time and it became dry and salty. I've gone to Mackenzie's twice now and both times have been great. My first visit the bartender greeted my friend and I when we sat down. She recommended drinks and checked in on us. We were their for the open mic and the atmosphere was very welcoming to musicians and the bar patrons were pleasant as well. My second visit I was greeted when I walked in the door by Casey behind the bar. The food smelled amazing so I ordered food and it didn't disappoint.
