Went for lunch and was shocked at how badly I was treated. When I walked in I asked if I could sit in the corner and the girl (Jean was her name) very rudely pointed me to the direction and didn’t give me a menu or water until I asked. Food portion was extremely small and get this… I wasn’t given any utensils or plates… I asked Jean 3 times for both plates and utensils and I wasn’t given anything and then I walked up to the front desk and asked the manager and he finally gave it to me. Because of the lack of attention and service given to me, I decided not to tip. As I was walking out the door, Jean chased me and started screaming at me while having the resturant door open. She told me the tip is mandatory, I told her if that was the case they would’ve deducted that amount automatically and I told her that her service is the reason she did not get a tip. She further continued to yell and scream and tell me that “next time if you don’t tip you don’t come back”. Which really shocked me because a tip is earned it’s not just handed out. Especially if the service was bad. I then called the manager, who was even more delusional and began to tell me it’s STATE LAW to tip. I don’t know what law this man is looking at but that’s not the case. He said “in DC it’s not the law to tip but in VA it is” 😭😂 then he began to justify her behavior by telling me they only get paid $3 an hour which is why they beg for tips. Maybe if they provided better service and were nicer people would tip them. Also, there were about 6 people including me so it was not busy at all. In fact, Jean, the server was in the back on her phone. When I went to the register to ask for a plate, she was scrolling on her phone avoiding customers. So to summarize:
Do NOT visit. You will get scammed. There are many other Thai restaurants, don’t support scammers and thieves. That lady Jean needs to check her attitude before she can work at any...
Read moreI’ve been a long-time supporter of Sister Thai’s other locations, but my first visit to their Fairfax City establishment was deeply disappointing. The service was among the rudest and most inattentive I’ve ever experienced in any restaurant setting. What has always been a warm, welcoming, family-friendly environment at their other locations felt strangely cold and uninviting here.
From the moment we were seated, the tone was off. (This is by the manager who seemed like a lovely guy, but unfortunately left through our meal). We were assured that our child’s highchair placement wouldn’t be a problem, yet multiple staff members repeatedly brushed past her, carried hot plates precariously overhead, and gave us visibly unpleasant looks. It was uncomfortable and frankly, unsafe.
Despite being seated quickly on what became a quiet Friday evening, we had to repeatedly ask for basic necessities like napkins and utensils — requests which were met with sighs and eye rolls from our server. When we began by ordering drinks and appetizers, our server seemed annoyed that we weren’t immediately ready with entrées, despite barely having had a chance to look at the menu.
Refills were almost nonexistent, no one followed up about additional drinks or dessert, and attempts to flag someone down were ignored. At one point, we watched our server spend time taking photos in the corner and chatting with table of older patrons, while our requests for service went unacknowledged in a half-empty restaurant.
Eventually, we had to approach another staff member to ask for the check, which was finally processed by a different server — she was quite kind but equally inattentive.
I’ve always admired the Sister Thai brand for its consistency and hospitality. Unfortunately, this location felt like an entirely different operation — one that left a sour taste far beyond the food. I won’t be returning to this location and sincerely hope management addresses the concerning staff behavior we...
Read moreThe first time I ate at Sisters Thai Café my friends from NY & I were extremely impressed by not only the quality of the food but also by the service. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the varied menu, courteous, professional and so thoughtful. This is the reason why I chose to return for a 2nd visit with family members from abroad. This time however our experience was quite the opposite, especially due to the poor service provided by the waiter we had. He didn’t even inquire whether we wanted any beverages before taking our food orders. It wasn’t until the food was about to arrive that my husband asked if beverages could be served. The soup our youngest guest had asked for apparently hadn’t even been ordered for us so though we had our food we all waited for her dish to be made & brought to her before eating. At no point did he even inquire whether we needed anything else. A while later I noticed that he had already placed the tab on the table without even inquiring whether we wanted to order anything else or dessert; frankly it felt as if he just wanted us to be done & gone! When I asked whether we could see the dessert menu & pointed to the check he apologized and brought us menus.
Furthermore where we 6 were seated was not the most comfortable either as there were always one or two servers standing right on top of two of us since that’s where the register is located. When a server had nothing to do that’s where they’d just stand, almost right over us! It is unfortunate that my prior 5-star, wonderful experience at Sisters Thai Café was spoiled and overshadowed by today’s poor service and just average food. I’m not sure whether I’ll ever be dining...
