Overview: This was my first time at Raan Thai and everything was absolutely delicious. The ambiance was great and I enjoyed that it was a more modern take on the classic Thai theme. Service was fantastic from both the host and our waitress.
Food/Drink: Thai Iced Tea- Classic, cold, and very sweet, but I didn't mind.
Coconut Soup with Chicken- Also known at most Thai places as Tom kha kai the flavor was deep and it had the perfect ratio of sweet (from coconut milk) and lime (from lime leaves and juice,) it was the best rendition of the soup that I've ever had.
Corn Cake- Nice and crispy without tasting oily, it had a subtle sweetness and paired extremely well with the more acidic garlic cucumber sauce it was paired with.
Thai Wings-Nice and peppery, if you're adverse to pepper I would not recommend, but they were cooked very well and still juicy.
Vegetable Tempura- Cooked perfectly and included a variety of vegetables. I appreciate that it wasn't oily!
Masaman Curry- I'm going to be dreaming about this curry until I have it again. There's a depth of flavor and sweetness that I can't believe is humanly possible. The potatoes and carrots are a hearty addition and having it rice is by far the best way to eat it.
Cleanliness: Everything was spotless including dishes, cuttlery, and the bathroom was very well taken care of. They also had a super cool sink and mirror, which added to the ambiance.
Accessibility: There is a main sidewalk that is easily accessable to people in wheelchairs. There is also a little sidewalk that goes around a flower bed, that I do not think would be accessible to people in wheelchairs. There are no steps up to the restaurant that would require any sort of lift or ramp. There are plenty of seating options and the tables attached to booths move so if you're a larger-bodied individual you should be fine. There are also tables only with chairs. The bathroom was small, but would be manageable for somebody in a wheelchair.
Ambiance: 9/10 Service: 10/10 Food/Drink: 10/10 Accessibility: 8/10 Cleanliness: 10/10
TOTAL SCORE: 47/50 =...
Read moreMy single moms of Fairview Park group and I chose to go to Raan Thai together before we went to Wrestlemania last week. Most of us wanted non “ethnic” fare but the bossy and loud member of the group we will call “Mitzi” insisted. We usually lie to her about when the meetings are but someone told her the truth this time. We were greeted very boisterously by the hostess and were seated post haste! We were overwhelmed by the enticing smells of curry and Pepsi zero. I had a hankering for some pad Thai but once I laid eyes on the menu I felt more unsure than a baby bird taking flight for the first time. EVERYTHING on the menu sounded AMAZEBALLS! A very kind young man came over to the table and served all of us waters. He checked me out but Mitzi was sitting next to me and when he walked away, she asked if everyone noticed him checking out her new butterfly necklace. I tried to but in and make sure she knew it was definitely me he was checking out but Sharon told Mitzi she should ask for his number before I got a chance to get it out. Plus, I mumbled it accidentally so nobody heard me say it. Needless to say I was fuming that Mitzi was stealing my thunder. All of us ordered something different but as usual I ordered with the most good taste and expertise. I had chicken. The cute server filled up Mitzi’s water glass first every time he came around for refills and that was sorta ruining my mood but the chicken cheered me back up to some extent. Which means a lot about the chicken.
The bathrooms were also stocked with extra toilet paper, and of...
Read moreRaan Thai uses an online ordering platform that is unclear. It said that orders will be ready 30 minutes after being accepted. However, it is completely at the whim of the restaurant when they accept orders. I was told by the owner that they don't accept orders when it is busy. That isn't mentioned anywhere when ordering. It says to wait until you receive a notification. But in my case, that wasn't for over 30 minutes. At that time, I was told another 30-40. I had no idea it would take over an hour to get my food. And because it's at the whim of the restaurant, it could be longer. I understand that food takes longer on weekend evenings, and I understand why small businesses do not want to use other apps. But at least through Door Dash or others like that, there is an estimated time and updates. You know in advance how long your food will take. Raan Thai's platform didn't even notify me that my order went through. Perhaps that additional step, with a potential time for acceptance, or even a note about acceptance, would have been helpful. The owner's only response when I finally received my food was he told me he was just having a bad day. The food was okay, but there are better in the area. And because of the entire ordering process, I will not...
