My family arrived around 12:15 for their outside dining. We weren't sure whether masks were required or not so we approached the deck area and looked around. 90% of the patrons were not wearing masks so we remained standing there to be seated. A waitress then came over and stated that to be on the deck we needed to wear a mask. Confused but with respect and understanding to the special circumstances we find ourselves in during this pandemic, we gladly cooperated and put them on. We were then directed to sit anywhere and a waitress would be with us. We found a table on the far side of the deck under the roofed area. After a few minutes, we were greeted and asked about what drinks we would like. We were also given a card to scan to see the menu. After a short while, our waitress came back to take our order. We ordered two plain slices of pizza and a small broccoli white. In the mean time 3 other tables had since sat in the same area as us (a 6 top, a 2 top, and a 5 top). All of these people sat after we did and ordered after we did. The 2 top was almost immediately served with their large pizza and alcoholic beverages. The 6 top was served their entire order ranging from salads and pasta, to pizza and wings! As we sat trying to keep our toddler son well behaved, watching table after table get served after they arrived and order after we did, unfortunately our patience started getting strained. The waitress then approached our table and with a smile said she apologized for the long wait but it will be out in a few minutes. That gave us some hope. Unfortunately due to how long this was taking my time started to run short on when I needed to be at work. We had been sitting for about 40 minutes at this point. We then requested with another waitress (since ours wasnt around for a while) if we could please get our order to go please. She responded sure and went to deliver the message. Unfortunately it was at least another 15-20 minutes later when our order FINALLY arrived to us. The waitress respectfully apologized over and over. We understood it is a weird time and businesses are trying to do the best they can but something went wrong here. I counted 5 tables who sat and ordered after us and were served before us. Our order was not complicated. And the last kicker was the payment option they presented us with a no option 18% gratuity included minimum. It was over an hour before our food was delivered to us from time of placing our order with the waitress. I will not be returning here anytime soon. Our pizza, once we finally were able to eat it back at our house was...
Read moreI do not delight in sharing this review because I have been to Kings restaurant in the past and never had a problem, not until tonight. NOTE: We were there early, So it was “see yourself “which meant not busy.I’ll try to keep this as short as possible. -My son, orders small steak and cheese, Stromboli -I ordered pizza half onion, half olive different halves -While waiting for a long time for the food, waitress comes over and apologizes because she screwed up when she put the order in- she put my pizza order onto his Stromboli. -“Half of it”had already been made w/onion which she brought over to the table. -At first, we were laughing about the incident, bc we felt it was an honest Mistake And the waitress felt bad about it as well. -We had to wait even longer after that because something else had happened -my son, still asking for the other half of his Stromboli, she told they won’t make a half. Because of the situation she told him she would bring over a “special Stromboli “ -She brought a small whole special Stromboli, which had bacon ham peppers in it, which my son does not eat. Normally, our restaurant replaces what the customer, But you brought over something he didn’t even want the first place -Says it to the waitress, And the conversation and everything just went downhill. She became a little snippy. My son kept saying to me why did she bring over a different kind of Stromboli than I ordered? if the restaurant makes an error in what they made, they usually replace it with the same item you ordered. That is not what happened here. -We thought the replacement she brought to the table was ours to take home so I boxed it up with my leftover pizza -waitress comes over and says, where is the Stromboli? you can’t have that; I need it back. I have never in my life Heard anybody in a restaurant do this or say that to me. I had to open the pizza box where I placed the other Stromboli, she got a pan and dumped it out. my son heard her say that she had to pay for that out of her own pay if it was a mistake. -So in summary, my son got gypped out of his order. He only got a half of the small. She took it off the bill, But the restaurant did not give him what he wanted. He’s a customer. I never had a restaurant treat a customer quite this way so we’re probably never gonna go there again because of...
Read moreWell let's see....where do I begin. I've tried every pizzeria between my town of Berwick and Wilkes Barre (but not every pizzeria in Wilkes Barre), and King's Pizzeria is the closest thing to authentic NY style pizza that I've found. If this pizzeria existed on Long Island, where there are good pizzerias on every corner, it would be among the very good pizzerias there. As a matter of fact, the only reason I can't rate this 'excellent' is because I would have nowhere to put the very best pizzerias I've ever been to (e.g. The Original Umbertos of New Hyde Park on Long Island, among others).
That being said, let's get to the pizza itself. Their NY Style pizza, like I said, is a true NY style pizza. They apparently use very good and fresh ingredients and you can tell they cut no corners when it comes to their pizza. I can't pinpoint one aspect of the pizza that stands out because the flavors of all the parts of the pie come together seamlessly to make for a fantastic pie.
Next, their Margherita pizza. King's offers a truly authentic Margherita pie as well. The first thing I noticed when trying it for the first time was the eruption of flavor from the sauce. The sauce is only slightly chunky and seemed it was made up of very high quality tomatoes that were emulsified, possibly with a hand blender. Whatever they use, their Margherita pizza tomato sauce is incredible. The cheese is high quality fresh mozzarella which is also flavorful. The crust is thinner than their NY style crust and is usually charred perfectly giving it a great balance between crispy and chewy. That's what I look for in a good Margherita pizza and King's has it. This is important to note, however, because not everyone who has a wood fired brick oven at their disposal knows how to properly use it. I've gotten Margherita pizza pies twice from a pizzeria called 'RoseMarie's' in Bloomsburg, and both times the pizza was overcooked and dried out. Because of the high temperatures of a brick oven, leaving the pizza in 20 seconds too long can ruin an otherwise great pizza.
Overall King's gets the 'very good' score, but if I were only comparing it to pizzerias in the area it would easily score an...
